Anybody check this out? The Outsider is an adaptation of a Stephen King novel about a high school teacher/Little League coach named Terry Maitland (Jason Bateman) in a small Georgia town who is accused of heinously murdering one of the small boys he coaches. When Detective Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn) is satisfied with the evidence, he decides to have Terry arrested in front of the entire town while coaching a game and this solidifies Terry's status among his peers. What follows is a confounding mystery with what might be a supernatural twist...? Only 2 episodes have airred so far but at the end of ep 2 we had kind of a WTF moment. It's a bit of a slow burn but I think it's on track to be pretty good. I understand that the recently Oscar nominated Cynthia Erivo will make her appearance next episode.
I just started this show, three episodes in and I really like it. I was really hoping for it to be a straight up murder mystery like True Detective, but I'm going to stick with it.
Worth watching, but not great. Stephen King likes the adaptation. Filmed in and around Atlanta. Cynthia Erivo was the best part.
I thought it was awesome. Like most King novels, the characters are what really makes it more than the monster-of-the-week. The cast is fantastic, and though the show is a slow burn at times, I like who it took the time to flesh out the characters and give some truly chilling moments.
I finished the first season last night. Mendelson did a really good job with this. It had some elements of IT, but more grown up. Some of it was predictable, but the writing was well structured and not confusing, just straight forward storytelling. Like I said, it felt like The X-Files. At the end it felt like they were setting up a more serious Ghostbusters like team.
