suspended at $273. I'm guessing another selloff triggered it.

stabilizing at 275. that's all folks (might be an opportunity in the morning, but it's too weird for my tastes).

Okay, so I'm finally learning about shorting stocks. Why is "borrowing" stock a thing, anyway? Are you supposed to pay interest on the stock you borrow?

AOC, Rashida Tlaib, Jamaal Bowman, Jim Cramer, Mark Cuban, Elon Musk, Ben Shapiro, and Donald Trump Jr. are all slamming Robinhood for halting purchases. You know you’ve fucked up when you unite THAT crowd.

Side note: I can’t open a brokerage account with Chase or transfer money to Schwab. Robinhood also removed GME even from their search results. This is some bullshit manipulation going on.

Yeah, you pay a fee (plus interest?) to the brokerage that loans you the stock. I don't do shorts but I watch indications there are shorts in the wind. Borrow rates are an indication.

    Where you been?

Like I said. As soon as it became obvious that a bunch of internet nerds could outmaneuver the "wizards" who get paid ridiculous sums of money to "control" the markets, it became time to change the rules. Kinda like how the Senate filibuster goes in and out of favor depending on which party is using it for what.

I’m interested to see how this all plays out.

People were already pissed at the juxtaposition of ‘best stock market evah!’ v ‘worst employment numbers since great depression’.

People already feel the stock market is just a casino for rich people completely divorced from the actual economy.

Once it is made clear that not only is it a casino for rich people but that the rich can rig it at will if regular people try to play...

I really have no clue as to how this ends up and if it will be better or worse for the actual economy.

If Congress decides to fuck over the little folks via this, things will get real ugly. I suggest buying stock in zip cuff manufacturers.

I think there's an excellent chance of Congress deciding to fuck over the little folks.

ETA: even in the best case, Congress opens the conversation by talking to the hedge funds and asking them how this could have been prevented. Zero chance they blame their own overreach, at least not in any language that Congress understands.

These trading platforms largely exist to move money from retail investors to larger firms, it's not a surprise they instantly slam shut when that flow changes direction.
