Yeah, you pay a fee (plus interest?) to the brokerage that loans you the stock. I don't do shorts but I watch indications there are shorts in the wind. Borrow rates are an indication.

Like I said. As soon as it became obvious that a bunch of internet nerds could outmaneuver the "wizards" who get paid ridiculous sums of money to "control" the markets, it became time to change the rules. Kinda like how the Senate filibuster goes in and out of favor depending on which party is using it for what.

People already feel the stock market is just a casino for rich people completely divorced from the actual economy.

Once it is made clear that not only is it a casino for rich people but that the rich can rig it at will if regular people try to play...

I really have no clue as to how this ends up and if it will be better or worse for the actual economy.
