Most people don't get that by the end of the season Pulaski respected Data as a person more than anyone else on the ship, which is why she was the one to help him mentally process his loss against Kolrami and get his groove back. I wish she'd stuck around, Data needed a friend like that. :(

Oh, absolutely. She's the perfect example of someone bothering to engage with another demographic (even if that's "a society of one" in Picard's terms) and becoming an ally. She only stands out because the rest of the E-D crew were allies from day one or VERY shortly thereafter.

It seems obvious to me pulaski was supposed to come off self rightious and somewhat bigoted at the time. That was the moral lesson of her character. It was supposed to show how being stuck in old ways was worse than evolving and respecting others.

Data was used because he reacted without emotion so people like @Steal Your Face wouldn't fli[p shit when someone was offended by the pronunciation of their name. I think it was more due to the fact the repugs were all bothered by black and brown names.

getting mad at her character now seems to miss the reality the show had a big message regarding different peoples. They needed a person to do this, and since they were going to flush her down a torbolift shaft anyway.

I saw a meme the other day about Rikers first meeting with Data where he calls him Pinocchio, that motherfucker met his new coworker and immediately invented a new slur just for him. Incredible. :marathon:

No weirder than the fact that Worf is both "Worf" to his friends when off-duty and "Commander Worf" when on-duty, and never "Commander Son of Mogh." Any organization with members from tons of different cultures is going to end up being really flexible around naming conventions.

Good thing then Nerys beat that out of Shax. I can just imagine Freeman's aneurysms trying to remember that number :ramen:

Considering the way assholes coopted that symbol, I approve of this wholeheartedly.

Frank would be down with this. As long as you aren't a criminal (and no, laws against homosexuality or transgenderism aren't on his list) he doesn't give a toss what gender you prefer to be OR fuck.

But be a cop fanboi-ing over him? Fuck off. You're supposed to Protect and Serve.

Unfortunately, IRL America has decided cops don't actually have to do that.

Plenty of reasons to dislike the Pulaski character. No reason to bring in current issues which would most likely not even be an issue in Roddenbury’s universe.
