"Lethal Weapon" is on tv tonight. Some thoughts: Mel's 80s hair is...interesting. They did a decent job editing it for television. Watching the pistol range scene, Mel Gibson can't shoot for shit. He blinks and flinches and jerks the trigger something terrible. People smoked in offices and cars and stuff. It's sort of refreshing to see a film from the 80s. The production values are sort of a nice change from the slick stuff you see now--stuff like the costuming for the little black kids who witness the explosion--I mean 3D glasses? A Davy Crockett jacket!? Or the stunt where Riggs jumps off the roof with the jumper, "handcuffed" togething. You clearly daylight between the "handcuffs." An entertaining 80s popcorn flick, all told. TKO really should see it.
I watched that one the other night, too. How'dja like that gigantic 'portable' phone Danny Glover uses?
"Wall Street" was on a few weeks back. The Motorola "brick" Michael Douglas talks on is amusing too. That movie, when it came out, I was too young to appreciate it. Watching it again, it's really good.
Oh, and back to "Lethal Weapon", it's amusing that the "old timer", Glover, is a Vietnam veteran. And the young "kid"...is also a Vietnam veteran. Nowadays Vietnam veterans have the role that WWII veterans did in 80s films.
Oh, and by the way, what the phuq was "Lethal Weapon" doing on Bravo? : -Ad for hair stylist reality show. -Ad for interior decorator reality show. -Ad for hair stylist reality show that is a spinoff of the first reality show. -Mel Gibson, shooting stuff and calling two women sleeping together "disgusting" -Mel Gibson, after the house blows up and Danny Glover is trying to put out his clothes that are on fire: "What are you, a fag?" -Another ad for the hair stylist reality show. "Lethal Weapon" should be on Spike, at least TNT.
Saw a bit of Lethal Weapon as well, had a laugh when I noticed that a movie advertised on a marquee in the background was The Lost Boys the hit of the summer or some such. The kid wearing 3-D glasses wasn't as bad as Riggs showcasing his tattoo for the kid to see. All and all still a fun flick with a good balance of action and comedy.
