from the Army War College incompetence scandal. Sure, Walsh plagiarized his Army War College Master's thesis. Kick him out of the Senate and hang him for all I care. But have you read his insipid paper? There's no universe in which that's a legitimate Master's thesis. It's not a legitimate undergrad thesis. It's a D- in an introductory level college public policy class if you're generous, maybe a C+/B- in a high school social studies class. It demonstrates little-if-any knowledge beyond the ability to mechanically use the footnote function in some word processing program. If that's the standard of excellence in the Army War College then just disband the fucking military and replace it with hand puppets. It would be cheaper and more militarily effective.
That post was calm, thoughtful, balanced, and mature. I'll be considering each of its salient points very carefully.
Damn. That was an epically bad paper. Plagiarism aside, it was incoherent, quotes were used without context, and most facts were asserted without evidence.
I have had many discussions about the watering-down of my degree by other people doing lesser work to get the same degree. My God, how can people stand typing so much on their phones?
I couldn't get past the second page, it was just that bad. I remember when I was in college talking to high school friends about writing assignments. It seemed I was the only one who ever had to write something longer than five pages. I'm sorry, but if you get through a BA program with such a limited writing requirement, you didn't earn a degree. Maybe something worthy of a certificate, but not a real diploma. This paper exemplifies the same concept, and it is just an embarrassment for our higher ed system that such a thing passed muster.
Too long, didn't read. Damn that whole subject would be boring and dry no matter who covered it. If the whole curriculum at that college is similar, how does anybody stay awake? BTW I hope you get the green-light on that hand puppet army - I can envision doing a hand puppet scene-for-scene remake of the Normandy landing in Saving Private Ryan. An all kitten cast would be okay too, but hand puppets are pretty kick-ass as well.
I was expecting to see "John loves Marsha XOXO" doodled somewhere in the corner. I mean, that paper is awful.
Clearly, I need to go to graduate school as (given this thesis, which reads like a very mediocre English 101 paper) it seems a Master's degree is absurdly easy to obtain.
I wonder how man people actually even knew of the degree when they voted for him. I suspect "war hero" was the only thing they gave a shit about.
I know a few "war heroes." I wouldn't want most of them running a toaster let alone people. But this doesn't shock me. I've seen some real dullards with degrees - degrees mean shit most of the time.
So you don't have by-elections for the Senate? That's fucked up. Over here, when an MP resigns or dies it causes a local election.
My experience with people that have Master's degrees would bear your hypothesis out. You pay your money, you pass your tests, and you get your paper. The end. For decades, a Bachelor's degree has been what a High School Diploma used to be. It's catching or caught up where a Master's is what a Bachelor's used to be.
This actually varies by state. In some there is a special election for a vacated Senate seat, while other states wait for the next scheduled federal election. In either case, the governor appoints a temporary replacement, so that the state maintains full Senate representation. In the House of Representatives, the same process happens regarding an election, but there is no temporary appointment, so the seat remains vacant until after the vote.
I think a lot of times a degree is a not demonstration of intelligence. It shows that an individual is able to read a list of requirements, follow and complete those requirements.
