I can't remember the last time I watched one of these insipid speeches. However, if they're all like this one was I've really been missing out:

The last one I think I watched was back in Obama's first term.

I wasn't feeling good Tuesday night and actually forgot all about it and went to bed early.

I'm completely bipartisan on those things - I can't stand watching ANY president blather on that long.

Maybe I'm a bit of a wonk, then. I actually like to watch the SOTU, no matter who the President is.

I saw parts of it through the Culver's window while waiting for my food.

I still find this bit of the SOTU amusingly stupid:

"I will also ask for an appropriation of an extra $100 million to launch an intensive campaign to find a cure for cancer, and I will ask later for whatever additional funds can effectively be used. The time has come in America when the same kind of concentrated effort that split the atom and took man to the moon should be turned toward conquering this dread disease. Let us make a total national commitment to achieve this goal."

Richard Nixon said it better, and said it first (1971).

Aren't we already trying like crazy to cure cancer?

Not really. Until Obama thought of it the other day doctors just accepted it as a fact of life. :bergman:

Meanwhile, the Pentagon had better get all over the improved human who can't feel pain, hunger, or fatigue and can go for days without sleeping, all due to a chromosome 6 disorder.

If we could replicate the condition and raise kids in military training camps where they're also taught not to feel guilt or remorse, we'll have a weapon we can use against the machines.
