New show, pilot episode tonight. I found it entertaining enough, but that it's a police station where EVERYONE has dark & dirty secrets seems (to me) to be incredibly contrived. I like the female lead, and that she doesn't seem to have ANY chemistry with the male lead, which gives me hope that there WON'T be a 'will they-won't they' nonsense. The cop with a death wish miraculously escaping death twice was a nice touch, I'm wondering if he's got some sort of 'can't die' juju. I'll give it 2 more episodes to try and hook me. But that's it.
I thought that The Unusuals was an awful mess. Amber Tamblyn and Jeremy Renner do a good job in a crime/conspiracy drama. Everybody else was in a slapstck comedy. Castle is much better. It has humor that is sharp and quick, and that fits in with the show.
They have been advertising the shit out of it during Lost. So much in fact, that I just didn't care to see it because they did advertise it so much. I get that way with movies too, the more you try and push something on me, the more I will reject it just because I don't like high pressure tactics.
Wierd thing is that the promos hardly have Amber Tamblin in them at all. You barely catch a glimpse of her in one scene. Yet she seems to be the star of the damn show when you finally watch it.
I think it will work better if they lean towards the comedy...not an out and out comedy but definitely with a sort of "Scrubs" type of take on Cop shows.
I've seen two episodes now and I like it. A bit more intellectual than the standard network fare. The previews made it seem like it was about some special unit for misfit detectives, but I guess it's just a regular detective unit that happens to be composed of misfits. Oh well. I'd like to get a better sense of how this squad relates to the wider police force, their reputation, etc.
The second and third episodes were definitely better than the pilot, I'm gonna keep watching this until it gets canceled probably.
Yep. Decent show. I think most of all, I just like Amber Tamblyn in whatever she's doing. She merely little-girl cute, no pinup model, but I like her.
