Well? Man I was shocked to see such a 1 to 1 transfer. Usually names are always changed somewhere, but Gene is Gene, Sam is Sam, Chris is Chris, Annie is Annie, etc. When Sam even goes back in time he sees the red dress woman. I wasn't expecting such a faithful telling of the BBC series. In a way I'm disappointed, I was expecting some kind of US twist or some kind of overall story change to keep me interested, but no. I thought the World Trade Center Towers were a great touch, that was the only thing I really didn't expect. Nice. I think it would have been more interesting if Sam had blown the kid away. I'm serious. A real what if you met Hitler as a kid question. Oh well, guess you can't shoot children on network tv. EDIT - BTW, can you post attachments here? It would be cool if someone posted that song!
I watched it and I didn't like it. It was just a very unpleasant experience. I've been to 1973, and that wasn't it. The was like a "Blade Runner" version of 1973. Everything was crummy and dirty. The characters were awful. The policewoman was from the 1930's. The lead character was literally trying the escape from the show. The clothes were ridiculous. Get those guys a haircut. The whole '70's thing was way overdone. The '70's weren't that '70's. The whole story is told in the first episode. He's trapped in hell, without a cell phone. I see no reason what-so-ever for this show to continue. If you want to see the '70s watch the Rockford Files.
I guess we're the only two who even watched it. Sam's purple pants were over the top. But remember this isn't the REAL 1973. Its Sam's vision of 1973. So it makes sense it probably would be a little over the top.
The aintitcool review seemed to be cool, so who knows. I didn't think it was that bad. Seriously, I would love a copy of that song if someone wants to upload it.
I watched up until the part where Sam shows up at his precinct in 1973. I'll finish the rest tonight. I was liking what I saw so far at least, if only because it was so close to the UK version.
I never saw the UK version. :hangs head in shame: On the basis of its stellar reputation, I'll give the US version a shot. I did not think the opening US episode was very good, though.
^ That might be the most telling sign since I admit, I can not see this series objectively not without thinking about the BBC version.
This show can still be saved. Lighten up on the clothes and the hair. Get rid of the brutality and the stupidity. Make the policewoman a full detective. Forget about 2008. Concentrate on a new case each week. Get a new lead, or just watch Streets of San Francisco.
