from a practical standpoint you're probably right. Although I did say we should turn off images and attachments, so it would be hard to post any pics not in ASCII art.. I'm just not fond of wholesale deletion of data; pics can be uploaded elsewhere, but recreating the threads would be pretty much impossible.

I thought we already upgraded mysql.

Without pictures the White Room would be a waste of space, truly.

Getting rid of it entirely would also bring home the point of NO nudity in a very clear way.

Christ. I have like 16 pages of images in the gallery...both WF inspirational threads worth of pics. I have them all in my computer, but those threads will pretty much be toast after this. I sure as heck ain't rebuilding them again. :soma:

Eh, there's a few discussion threads in there that would likely not have been started elsewhere.

I have to admit to not being very happy with the idea of emptying the gallery completely, but unless someone wants to go through it by hand, the finest level of granularity I can do is per user.

The gallery has been wiped before and no-one died. I don't see it as much of an issue, myself. As long as folks know it's coming and can save their images - assuming they don't already have them stored somewhere on their home computer - it shouldn't cause too much hate and discontent.

Damn. It's my fault for not checking this thread. I just deleted the White Room, all the threads therein, and the usergroup. That was the agreed upon plan between Lanzman and I immediately prior to transferring the domain (and thus the final divestiture).

Either way, it's done and the domain has been transferred. Retrieval instructions are in your e-mail inbox, Lanz.

Good, IMO, for what it's worth.

Meh... I just don't like seeing data permanently deleted. Shades of the memory hole, and all that. Hell, if it wasn't for performance reasons, I'd hate to do pruning too.

Oh shit, am I confused? The gallery issue is totally separate from the White Room one, right? I wasn't concerned about the White Room, as I said above.

Sorry, man. That prolly could have been handled better. All on me.

What's the best way to get the vb software to you? Just email the downloaded file?

    Well, that was fun...

After archiving them all on my hard drive, I just deleted 4000+ Private Messages. Welcome to the big leagues, Lanz! :nyer:

Oh, and is the new hosting up yet? A few days to test the upgrades will minimize downtime... :?:

Also, FWIW, it's not nearly as hard to go through the gallery and delete individual pics as I thought. There's only 8 pages of users, and a look through the first 4 pages yielded only 1 nude pic, at least before Mr. Plow. That one might take a while, but unless there's a distribution towards the latter half of the alphabet, there's actually not much porn in there.

 I only delete the old stuff when I get close to full, and even then I keep anything that might become contentious.

Too used to having to keep all my old notebooks in case someone decides to sue me for libel five or six years down the line... ;)

Your PM box gets full? I've only ever deleted Baba's chat invites, and I've got less than 500 still.

Never saw the point of keeping PMs, kinda seems creepy in a way, like recording phone calls. I dunno, a private message is just that, private, not something to save for use on a later date.

    :clyde:

Oh well yeah I do that too. ;)

It's documentation. On more than one occasion, it's been handy.

Poster A can argue I said X when asked to fulfill my duties as owner. But, I can point to the PM on 08/15/2005 where I did, in fact, say Y.

I understand the logic yet I find it easier to keep it simple. BBS lawyerball isn't my thing, I'd rather resolve complaints as they come up and then move on. Once resolved it's done. Double jeopardy and all that. ;)

You haven't had the pleasure of people lying about you or your actions either.

People often try to re-write history and having the evidence to prove your innocence can come in handy.

Thankfully, it's rarely needed. Though I sometimes wish I had some that I deleted.
