I had to edit my hosts file just now to make sure I didn't ever go there again. Yikes! That's so fucking awful that John Castle could have been involved. Never mix crack, meth, and LSD. What were they thinking?
What's wrong with it? It looks slightly beta, highly readable and clear and very, very boring to me. Exciting like sports it's not. But maybe they're showing a different website to visitors from outside the US. If you want to see corporate web design with some cojones, go to www.bloomberg.com. Love it, hate it, at least everybody's got strong opinions on it. I love it!
The ESPN website has always sucked. This is actually an improvement IMO. As for Bloomberg, I excuse that complete rejection of design principles only because the content is so good.
The ESPN site is very inoffensive, apart from the decision that larger viewports should be treated to the content being lovingly wrapped in BIG FUCKIN' ADVERT YO! YO! YOU! BUY SHIT! Bloomberg is okay. Apart from the blue they use, that is fucking awful.
What's wrong with is is that I was blinded by the white and I couldn't find anything. It looks like 1990's webpage designed by someone with failing vision.
Not really, the site used to much more of a nightmare. I think it's just because you're a bitch, Liet.
Other than following links to specific feature stories, I can't remember the last time I went to ESPN's website. When I want scores or standings, I just go to nfl.com or nba.com.
You forgot MLB.com. Also, check out the Wordforge baseball thread for discussion of all things baseball, from youth to minor league, to the Majors. http://wordforge.net/index.php?threads/2015-baseball-thread.106419/ Even Yankees fans are welcome.
What are you viewing it on? Mosaic 1.0? It's a pretty standard layout for content sites, designed to be responsive with social meeja widgets. As I said before, the only annoying bit is it being coddled by a giant advert on larger viewports.
I believe these website changes are meant to afford sites the chance to have a universal version rather than different ones for mobiles, tablets, etc. BBC News just did it as well.
