Its a fuck up but not like the BBC care about the NBA. If one of your networks showed an image of Messi rather than Ronaldo, most of you guys would be saying so what..... Given the trajedy the unfolded, it does make it a bit more of an issue, but its just a dumb mistake.
You're also British, so you have an excuse (I can't name a single soccer player besides Beckham and that's only because he married my 3rd favorite Spice Girl) Oldfella is just a moron.
My favourite Spice Girl ironically used to serve in the chippy not far from where I work. Fancied her then too, even when she knew my name
Anyone with even marginal intelligence and working at a major news organization like the BBC should have been able to tell. Just sayin'
so the BBC are fucking idiots? Asking for a friend! That said there's a thing called "misdirection" and it's how magicians/illusionists ply their trade. For example when somebody is paying close attention to what somebody is saying they might not pay attention to what they are actually seeing.
What is funny about someone potentially losing their job over a simple verbal stumble with no malicious intent?
I know Michael Jordan because he used to shill Nikes, and just about everything else. I know Shaq because he shills for The General (auto insurance), and because of Shaq-Fu (Sega Genesis represent). If you put two dozen current (say 2010 to now) famous basketball players in a lineup and asked me to name them all, I'd likely fail to name more than one or two players at best. I like basketball, but I like the game itself, and I don't get into the team aspects of the sport like most others do. The only reason I noticed the difference between LeBron James and Kobe Bryant is because: (a) LeBron James has a well known beard and (b) the back of the jersey in the video says JAMES. If I'm working on a high resolution editing monitor, then even though there's a chance I'd miss factoid A, there's no way in hell I'd miss B unless I simply didn't give a shit enough to pay attention.
You mean like a blooper reel? I guess it could be, but I'm not sure this would qualify. And I don't think much of the current tendency to treat "the media" as a singular entity.
You were just angry because you would love to say the n word without being punished and you thought someone on the news got away with it so you were pissy like most racists. Maybe you, @Marso , and @oldfella1962 can start a support group for people who cry because they really want to call black people by the N word.
This. The editor used the wrong video. And contrary to what spot and stallion said, it doesn't matter that the editor didn't know who the players were. It could've been video of two different politicians or two different insurance salesmen. They still fucked up and made their employer look even worse due to the race of the people onscreen.
I am wondering how you do not know who kobe is. As a person who never watches basketball there are three players I know. Jordan, Bird, and kobe. The first two I know for playing basketball and the third I know because he raped bitches and got away with it because he played a game. He was all over the news for a long time with men saying he should get away with it because he played well. Any non millenial pretending they don't know who kobe was must have lived under a rock. Oh, I also know shaq but that is because of his movie.
