It's a sentiment that gets tossed around occasionally, that certain groups should "police their own" and report "suspicious" activity to the authorities. Read the experience of someone who grew up in such a group, and how dangerous such a mindset could become, and how well a meaning sentiment could have unintended consequences...

As always the problem isn't dealing with bad actors, it's the broad net that will cast suspicion on innocents and penalize individual thoughts and actions. Back up that busy body mentality with the power of federal law enforcement agencies, what could possibly go wrong?

    And?

The author doesn't cite a single example of the potential abuse she wants people to be concerned about. I couldn't care less whether she feels uncomfortable. I'm with Bill Maher on this, proponents of islam overwhelmingly support violence and death for anyone who they think has disrespected their religion. When the liberals who worship political correctness and flee from the truth can finally accept this basic fact, then we'll have some progress.

Until then, I have no problem encouraging American muzzies to spy on their own, and letting them know that if they fail to turn someone in, they will be prosecuted.

I've said it many times, the problem isn't religion, gun owners, [insert issue du jour], it's mental illness.

Teachers monitor all kids for these kinds of behaviors. Even when turned in nothing happens.

I don't think they have much to worry about. Muslim teens will be put at the bottom of the federal government's terrorist priority list, which is topped by Tea Party members, members of Rush 24/7, Fox News viewers, and Southern Baptists.

I've talked about the kid who used to torture animals and how both he and his brother were diagnosed with something along the lines of intermittent explosive disorder (not this exact diagnosis, I can't remember the name for some reason, but this describes his behavior). With the exception that we were told he couldn't control it; however if you witnessed one of his outburts you would see him size people up, go by the big kids, then push a little kid. He chose his victim. He was scary to teach. And none of us will be surprised if he becomes a serial killer . Well I would be surprised if he gets caught as the system taught him how to hide in plain site.

The system was told about him, but nothing was done.

On the plus side, your school is fortunate in having teachers who are not so overworked, underpaid, and overwhelmed that they can give this much attention to troublesome kids.

On the other hand, once the system is told and nothing happens, then what?

At least in this instance the parents are aware of the diagnosis. That's when I wonder whether he and his brother are being treated (therapy, medication?) and if not, why not? This is not the teachers' responsibility, obviously, but there's a gap that ought to be filled by someone with the skills to possibly thwart the next Ted Bundy.

(Note I'm not saying "government," but that's how it will be interpreted.)

The school and the community shouldn't have to just pass these time-bomb kids through the system hoping they'll move on and become someone else's problem.

Eventually medical science will probably isolate some gene sequence responsible for these psycho-emotional issues. Some of us would consider that a good thing. Others will yawp about The Minority Report.

The mother is crazy, the older one is adopted and who knows where the dad to the second one is. We were all in agreement that the mom "made" the kids.

BTW it takes no time out of your day to observe the kids in your class. It takes a couple of minutes to discuss things with your principal or Special Ed teacher. This is part of the job. Hell, it doesn't really take a lot of time to call DHS if need be. (I prefer when DHS has someone in the school as a liaison though)

I feel your pain, but what exactly should the system be allowed to do as long as a child hasn't done anything to lose their legal freedoms?

That is the million dollar question. As some have noticed, the vast majority of mass murderers had been reported on, but were slick enough to fool the system like the Santa Barbara killer or tge parents turned a complete blind eye like Sandy Hook, the Aurora guy, and the Columbine kids. And I'd wager many of the therapists out there are reluctant to pull the trigger (no pun intended) on patients because of the stogma that would place on them if in fact they weren't gonna go nuts.

Gosh, and what should we do with kids who have the bad genes? Euthanize them? Surely these future Ted Bundys aren't going to enjoy much quality of life.

    Commas, motherfucker. Posts #5, 15, and 18.

    Is that your solution?

By merely characterizing them as "bad," you're questioning your God's creation. Is that wise?

Given your aversion to things like science and facts, it's understandable that gene therapy would be yet another thing you don't understand.

You can take your commas and shove them up your dusty snatch sideways.

Euthanasia is your final solution, not mine. You're the one talking about identifying future serial killers using genetic testing. I say rather than going in and mucking around with trying to rewire someone, we utilize the Garamet Paradigm and put them down, since a serial killer doesn't have any appreciable quality of life.

You may have edited it, but it's still in the cache. Anyway, you were referring to Dayton.

And you still care more about your petty vendettas than the topic.
