Looks like we may need to add a rule to the Red Room. :(

I apparently made a mistake allowing the huge picture thing in one thread, which I did because there is really no rule against it and it was in the RR.

But now Powaquattsi used the tactic in another thread and was bombing it after every Zodiac post. I spoilered them and told him to knock it off, but I suspect it won't be that easy to make it go away. :marathon:

My computer almost seized up downloading that garbage and it is just a waste of time and bandwidth to have to potentially run into that shit all over the place.

The Isreal Myspace thread is the one where I spoilered the things. These things are massive. :jayzus:

    Thoughts?

    Maybe something like..

Add a rule that all rules are contingent upon the medium of the forum being left undisturbed and that posts are not made with inherent intent on disturbing it.

What that means is that spamming stuff about Pie is completely tolerable in places like the Red Room. But thread disruption, like a flood of break returns or large images wouldn't be. A rule like this would supersede all, because after all, none of the other rules can apply if the forum is unreadable.

There is probably a better way to put it..but you see what I mean?

Hmm....yeeaah, I dunno....I suppose it falls under the whole Borgs trying to shut down the board thing but on a smaller scale...just don't like more rules though....

Add a rule and you can be sure it won't be forgotten in two days. It's a fad, let it fade. Don't let them provoke you. Maybe ask them to spoiler the pictures or add a warning to the title.

Being afraid to add needed rules is just as bad as adding too many.

Whether it happens this time or not, I frankly don't give a fuck if the trolls don't like it or throw a regularly scheduled :shitstorm: over it.

I'm hoping it doesn't spread and it will be contained if I can make Powa see sense. But I started this because it may not work. And this kind of troll really disrupts the usablility of the board. Spam is one thing but gigantor images makes anything else impossible.

    1. No flaming and/or trolling outside The Red Room and The Gray Room However, even the Red Room and the Gray Room are moderated with a lighter touch. But in the end, determining whether or not something violates this rule is strictly up to the common sense of the staff.

Also, in case there is a contradiction in the rules or if we just don't have a rule to cover a certain type of behavior, this particular rule will be held as the golden standard.

I see your point. Might think about a rule that's generally about disturbing board functions and/or damaging the board. But making a rule about big pictures alone? That's microruling IMHO and bound to create problems. Just my €0.02.

Don't think that Powa is unreasonable btw.

We don't need to have to have a new rule for it.

The existing rules act just fine, use the one I just mentioned.

I'm PMing with Powa and basically he thinks this is a great way to shut up Zodiac and everyone else who is arguing with him.

I am trying to make him see when other people start using the tactic or Zodiac and friends start retaliating in kind what kind of mess that will be.

It's one thing to self-police with shunning, mocking and neg-reps it is another to create a disruption to shut down threads...even if the person who started them is not popular. *sigh*

    So much fun. :jayzus:

Powa has agreed not to do it again. Yay! :slice:

Now, let's hope no one else takes it up.

There is a precedent for browser-breakers: Iron-something-or-other was (Ironman, maybe? some TKer) banned for PM'ing browser-breaking pics. Now if we've got a thread in which that's explicitly allowed, that's one thing, but elsewhere... just no.

If it gets to be a problem, we have the Golden Rule, as Nick pointed out...

No need for a new rule... Which is why we wrote it that way.
