Time to Upgrade the Board Software

Apostle proposed it, and I am leaning in that direction. The board software has not been upgraded any time recently and a new version of vBulletin just came out not too long ago. I want to know what specifically we'd lose in terms of hacked features if we upgrade.

Cuz I think we're overdue.

Plus Order2Chaos and The Defender can smooth out any rough edges.

Security updates are the big thing. Upgrading to 3.8.7 PL2 (or 3.8.8 if that's the latest) is mostly about bug fixes.

Most likely, we *will* lose/have to redo the PHP hacks. This includes the current rep rule (negs are 0), the lack of popup thanking you after rep, and a couple of others.

The rest is less predictable. Just dot-releases shouldn't break hacks, but you never know. I think Nick got a test server set up to find out.

Unless you were talking about a switch to vB 4, in which case, I'd expect almost everything to break.

I'd like to get a little more feedback from everyone else, re: whether or not we want to go to vBulletin 3.8.7PL2 vs. vBulletin 4.0. I think it'd probably be easier to go for the simple upgrade, as I'm not sure what features would be lost in a move to 4.0. I think we should upgrade to 3.8.7PL2 at the very least. That being said, I just accepted a job where I'll be living out of a hotel for the next 2 months, so we'll see what my internet situation looks like. Supposedly there is 4G LTE there, so at the very worst I'll be able to work through that.

Does 4.0 have anything to offer that's worth practically starting over for?
