Voyager 2 crosses into interstellar space, and we're likely not going to hear much from either Voyager probe from here on out.
42 years is great tenure :salute:

V'Ger must evolve. Its knowledge has reached the limits of this universe and it must evolve. What it requires of its god, doctor, is the answer to its question, "Is there nothing more?"

It'll take Voyager 2 thousands of years to reach Proxima Centauri , assuming it's heading in that direction.

    It's not.

It will pass fairly close to Ross 248 in 30,000 years. It will continue to orbit the Milky Way and likely remain pretty much intact for billions of years.

And doesn't that thought give you a bit of a chill?

Even after all life on Earth has been ended, the Earth itself consumed by the expanding Sun, and the Sun turned into a white dwarf, the Voyagers will still be floating around the galaxy.

With their golden records, so perhaps some distant day someone else will know that we were here.
