To be honest, most conservatives would be pleased as punch to leave abortion up to the states, as was the situation before Roe v. Wade.

anyways the whole Tomi thing is she was pro life 3 months agobbutbwemt on the view last week and said she was pro choice, pandering to the audience.

Beck called her a bomb thrower on his show yesterday and mocked her on Twitter for being for trump care and his stimulus bill

He basically called her a hack and took steps go get her pandering dishonest ignorance off his network.

Punishing the pregnant woman is largely pointless. If she is seeking an abortion then in all likelihood she is under physical, emotional, and financial stress.

Punishing the doctor is the way to go. He/she has no excuse. They're just collecting a paycheck. And ultimately they are the trigger pullers.

And I've always believed in punishing the trigger pullers more than anyone else.

It's so vomit inducing to see the Daytons of the world act like this is something they really give a shit about, when "pro-life", didn't become a thing until Falwel stirred it up as revenge for social conservatives losing on segregation right around the same time the Dixie-crats took over the Republican party.

I was 13 the first time I ever heard of Jerry Falwell. And though it has been nearly 40 years I'm pretty sure there were plenty of people that opposed abortion rights even before then.

Of course, that doesn't jive with an "abortion is murder" stance either, since we couldn't abide states legalizing honor killings, or duels, or any other form of murder. :marathon:

Right, because obviously murderers should go free if they were under some kind of stress, poor things. It's only those who kill other people while happy, healthy, and prosperous that need punishment.

Once again: Nobody could hold such a view if they literally thought of abortion as murder in the sense in which actual murder is murder.

See? This is where the real hypocrisy is. If you think abortion is murder than you should be willing to punish the mother.

Wow, that "little wymins are too emotional to know what they want" crap is complete bullshit. :jayzus:

Yes, people abort for financial reasons, but that's not the only reason to do so. And if it's a choice of a woman being tied to her abuser for the rest of her life, I can't say I blame her for not bringing a kid into the world for that, either.

We agree on that. But only a tiny minority among pro-lifers make that connection. To me, the disconnect signals that they understand that killing a fetus is not the same as killing a person. How do you explain it? If you think that they do fully consider abortion to be murder, why wouldn't they punish a person who orders, pays for, and is complicit in such a murder?

Punishing pregnant women to any great degree would make it impossible to obtain or maintain broad political support needed to limit and restrict most abortions.

All laws are made with practical considerations in mind.

For example the Emancipation Proclamation by President Lincoln was made with so many exceptions and caveats in it in order to keep slave owners and slave states still loyal to the Union to keep fighting for the North.

Isn't that a textbook example of a strawman argument?

Announcing what "people think" and then arguing about why they are wrong? You're putting what you claim they "think" as a strawman you can then knock down..

And while I vehemently disagree, at least it's intellectually honest.

Same fore saying rape and incest babies ate ok to abort....are they less innocent than babies conceived by wanton sluts? 99 percent of your fellow pro lifers seem to think so.

Again social/political realities without the rape/incest exception (which be honest, makes up a minute portion of unplanned pregnancies) it would be impossible to get support for measures against the far, far, far, far, numerous numbers of elective abortions.

And indeed you would have to be; being raped or even raped by a family member does not give you the right to murder another, innocent person.

What is your explanation for the outcry from self-described pro-lifers against punishing abortion as murder?

No. I also don't think that abortions should be considered to be murder, so I am not knocking down that belief at all. I am concluding 'they don't think that abortion is murder' from the fact that they don't want to see abortion punished as if it were murder.

I've given my reasons. Why do you ignore them.

Personally IF I could change all the laws of the U.S. and have them enforced reliability I would punish women who have abortions with lengthy jail terms as murderers are.

But I know that is never going to happen. The American public will NEVER support sending 750,000 women each year to prison for even short terms simply for having an abortion.

American citizens just don't have the stomach for that no matter their social/political beliefs.

But they MIGHT be willing to support sending 10,000 doctors to prison each year for performing abortions. After all, the public is much less likely to rise up in defense of a rich doctor collecting a paycheck.

Since this country prohibits ex post facto laws per the Federal Constitution, I assume the number of doctors who go to actual prison will be very small, since doctors by and large are not stupid, and would likely cease performing procedures murders in violation of the law prior to the effective date of any hypothetical law.
