    . . . is a pretty good show! :soma:

I haven't seen all the episodes, but I'd like to. I am also happy that it will get a second season.

Torchwood is a show like Seven Days where if you don't try to nitpick all the inconsistencies and such (along with nagging questions such as "Why are they so unprofessional? Why is Jack such a terrible boss? Who made him the boss, anyway? . . . ) it is a very enjoyable show. It is dark and 'mature' but not really any more so than the X-Files episodes I remember.

At first I was a little disappointed that Captain Jack Harkness, whom I liked so much from Doctor Who and who is the reason I had an interest in this spinoff, is not so much the lead character as is Welsh Girl, who gets more annoying as the series progresses. Neither the audience nor the other characters get to know much more about Jack. But it's okay, since the other characters are interesting, albeit not always likable. I do like Tosh and Ianto (although by the last episode he appears to have forgotten that he hates Jack's guts) and I hope the next season focuses more on them.

It would be neat if the Sci-Fi channel would pick up this series for the U.S., but due to the cursing and homosexuality I doubt that will happen.

I like it, although Gwen's teeth gap really bothers me. The finale is pretty good though, especially what happens to Jack.

I like it. I also think this series was kinda the "Trial by Fire" for the team - Owen has been forced to realize he's a screwup, Ianto is getting tougher, Tosh has come out of her shell a little and Jack has - if the last few minutes of the finale are any indication - come to realize that he needs to treat the team more like friends than employees. His "my way or else" act did so little to inspire loyalty that they all turned on him. In the end, it was his willingness to sacrifice himself to put their cock-up right that won their trust.

Gwen's the only one whose issues at work aren't yet resolved.

Probably around the same time this year. They won't overlap it with Doctor Who - which itself isn't running until April - to avoid confusing the casual viewer by having Jack in both series at the same time (though hardened Who fans will realize this is perfectly possible where the TARDIS is involved...). Though he doesn't show up in Who until episode 9 or so...

Comments made by Eve Myles indicate they'll be taking longer to film each episode of Torchwood for series 2, which may help with some of the minor problems with editing and plot.

But hey, as long as they give Naoko Mori (Tosh) more to do, I'll be happy. She's lurvely...

A return for Bilis Manger (AKA Creepy Old Possibly Homosexual Guy Who Can Walk Through Time) would be very appreciated too - best villain I've seen on Who or Torchwood so far!

 i was just completely underwhelmed by it.

i found it to be little other than 'strange' with added swearing and shagging.

cast and character-wise, its very good, many programs ignore characterization but torcxhwood didn't, alas the material they had to play with was mainly shit.

and it did produce the most appallingly bad bit of TV in 2006 with 'cyberwoman', and epsiode so bad it made halle berry's 'catwoman' look oscar worthy.

i did enjoy some episodes - 'captain jack harkness' was excellent, and until the last 10/15 minutes the finale was brilliant with a genuinely creepy bad guy, and then they went all 'quatermass and the pit' and utterly ruined a good build-up.

torchwood would really benefit from a bit of buffyfication, less pointless CSI-esque shots and the same attention spent on the plot as is spent on the characters.

Chris Chibnall, the main writer, has taken a lot of flak in webfora for his scripts . He was responsible for Cyberwoman, but also the finale and Countrycide, which apart from the dodgy dialogue between Owen and Gwen in the woods ("When was the last time you came so hard...?") wasn't bad, albeit a bit easily resolved by Jack's L33t Shootin' Skillz. He seems to have it in him to write a decent story if he gets time to spend on it, so hopefully the longer production schedule should help.

If they don't invite Noel Clarke - AKA Mickey from Doctor Who - back to write another episode after the job he did with Combat (OK, so it was Fight Club with Weevils, who f**king cares?), they need their heads looking at. Apart from Owen - who was supposed to be f**ked-up in that ep - the team actually came across as professionals!

i wasn't particularly impressed with 'countrycide', as it was pretty much 'dog soldiers' sans werewolves.

its one other point that bugs me about torchwood, the scripts are overly derivative. its certainly not alone in doing that - stargate has lovingly ripped off any number of things over the years, however it's done so very much tongue-in-cheek and with a knowing wink.

torchwood just steals away, eragon-style, and hopes folk are too busy being enchanted by captain jack to notice. its annoying.

I enjoyed the old guy villain at the end - very master-ish in a lot of ways - and the TARDIS cliff hanger but much of the rest of the series has been drek.
