We already have this discussion going on in the Omnibus thread, but a day like this deserves multiple threads
I am filling my cup with their tears as we speak. It is unfortunate they won't take him away in cuffs, but that gives us qa good chance to hear him and his people cry. There will be ketchup flying and Orange droolius tweeting all night.
Unfortunately, this political persecution angle is going to be the narrative these right wing assholes push until November. The sad thing is, it might just work with moderates. And mark my words, sheep like @Steal Your Face will somehow find a way to justify all of the actual political persecution Trump initiates when he takes office again. Because that’s different.
But, it's plausible this could be an attempt to undermine the next presidential election. If it's plausable, then it wouldn't be entirely unreasonable to believe that it is certain that it was an attempt to undermine democracy. If believing that it is certain that it was an attempt to undermine the election is reasonable, then that's probably what happened. If one can be reasonably sure that his was about keeping Trump out of the White House, then it is unreasonable to believe otherwise. If "this is a political witch hunt" is the only reasonable position, then it is certain this is nothing more than a political witch hunt. Well, I'm convinced. Witch hunt, Biden's dimentia, Hillary's emails on Hunter's laptop... checkmate, libturds.
For decades, millions of people have said that there were serious problems with the cops and courts. Maybe now would be a good time to start listening to them.
Remember when Trump thought the conviction of the Central Park 5 was a travesty? Hahah! Nope! He wanted them killed.
Do you know anything about how sentencing works? Most likely he will get probation and a fine. Jail time is almost impossible. If he hadn't been such a pig-headed jackass he could have taken a plea deal like 99.5% of all other criminal defendants. But then he'd have to give up the TV time it brought him.
He could have taken a deal to have all his charges waived if he stays out of political life, like Spiro Agnew. But he wants the presidency for his vengeance tear, because he's Damien without the powers.
Ironically, he'd have a lot more money and a lot less criminal issues if he'd never run for president. His brand used to just be gaudy and gauche. Now it's toxic.
Half the electorate thinks Trump is a man's man who fights for the little guy (@Steal Your Face for example). I'd say his brand is half toxic, half real American hero.
Half of the electorate is really fucking stupid. No one in their right mind would ever look at that fat, soft-handed, spray-tanned Manhattan sissy and think he's a "man's man".

But Trump makes fun of cripples and the retards! He's just telling it like it is, your woke mind virus afflicted brains just can't handle it!
Also: Biden and the federal government had absolutely nothing to do with this prosecution. This was the Manhattan D.A.'s office. I know you express support for federalism and such, former Federal Farmer.. So you should be able to tell that in that system, there are different levels of government acting independently. Bragg wasn't doing Joe Biden's bidding. Neither was Letitia James. Neither is Fani Willis. And even conceding the argument that Jack Smith technically could be said to work for Joe Biden, he is an independent counsel for a reason. (So did Robert Hurr, but that didn't stop Hurr from putting the spin he did in his report). Also: in Stalinist Russia, they didn't allow defendants to have counsel of their choosing, the chance to assert any and all legal defenses, a jury of their peers, the chance to broadcast on the social media and elsewhere the alleged injustice they were facing, the chance of independent press and the public to monitor what was going on for themselves, etc. etc. etc.
Covfefe: That feeling you get when your cup runneth over with the tears of MAGAt brats like @Steal Your Face .
Pay attention to the permission structure Federal Farmer is setting up here. In order to get total immunity, all you have to do is run against somebody who gets elected president. Because once you do that, no matter what crimes you commit, if you face any legal consequences at any level, it's Stalinist. (Oh, and there ain't no fucking way Trump sees the inside of a jail cell for this. Seriously, how blazingly dishonest can you get?)
I hope he gets community service. I don't believe in making people serve jail time, unless confining someone is necessary for the safety of others, and I won't make an exception for Trump just because I don't like him. However, I would definitely like to see him using those tiny hands of his to serve soup bowls to homeless people, or giving presentations to high school kids about the dangers of unethical business practices.
I'd say it remains to be seen. (I meant the chances of Trump seeing the inside of a jail cell out of this case, as opposed to how blazingly dishonest FF can get). Yes, chances are that as a first time offender (convicted? No, never convicted. tm Stripes), as an elderly man for whom even a three year term could be a life sentence, and as a former president, he would not serve time. There's also the question of whether a judge would be afraid of the effect imprisoning Trump might have on the country, his life, his career, his daughter and those close to him. There's also the concern that putting him in prison might make him a martyr. It would take some brass ones in the face of all that to say, "What he did deserves prison, so to prison he goes." But on the flipside, Judge Merchan may indeed have big brass ones. There's also such possibilities as Trump is indeed sentenced to prison but doesn't serve one day due to appeals/illness/death, or other intervening causes, or Trump ending up serving a sentence on one of his more serious crimes rather than any sentence here, decreasing the chances of Trump actually seeing the inside of a jail cell for this that much further. At a pure uninformed speculation level, I would say there's maybe a 5 percent chance that he serves prison time on this case.
Not for nuthin' (as they say in New York) but I put it 50/50. If acknowledgement of wrongdoing and remorse are mitigating factors he'll be doing life.
I would put the chances of Judge Merchan sentencing him to some amount of prison at about 50/50. But the other factors reduce it a lot. I think appeals will likely take at least a year, quite possibly two. I think there's a chance that the current SCOTUS finds some reason to pooh-pooh the verdict. I think there's a chance a NY Governor pardons him or commutes his sentence. I think there's a chance that he passes away in a year or two. I think there's a chance even if he exhausts his appeals he flees, gets bailed out by someone or something. Etc. etc.
