You forgot LTCM/Asian Financial crisis 1998. That said the fact that aside from the Great Recession the only other one of these financial crisis events that was more than a blip on the economy as a whole was the dot com bust is a testament to the resiliency of the US economy and the ability of the system to protect it not a weakness. I guess that is the issue here. We are talking past each other. You are focusing on Wall Street while I’m talking about Main Street. And LOL at Trump understanding anything more than Bad Economy Hurt Biden.
Yo. In the US the NBER defines when recessions have occured, using the following definition: The NBER defines a recession as a period between a peak and a trough in the business cycle where there is a significant decline in economic activity spread across the economy that can last from a few months to more than a year. https://www.nber.org/research/busin...e-dating-procedure-frequently-asked-questions
It's important to note that I take no stance on whether that definition is the one they should be using, if the US using a different definition to the majority of the world is sensible, or if under those wider indicators a recession or multiple recessions should have been declared. My main interest is in countering the consistent lies by types such as @Steal Your Face that Biden not only changed the definition, but apparently then propagated that change in definition back in time to a period before he took power.
FF doesn't tell lies, he repeats them, not having the intellectual honesty or capacity to sort the lies that make him feel good, from the truth that makes him uncomfortable.
It’s not FF’s fault. He’s been raised in a world where liberals are evil and conservatives are the only thing standing between the human race and pure evil (i.e. liberalism)
Thanks @Bailey And just a reminder that even under Billy’s definition we would not have been in nor are we currently in a recession. We didn’t have any quarters of negative growth much less two successive ones. He was using initial estimates that were then revised upwards once the hard data came in. Not that his ODD will allow him to admit it. Takes after Trump like that. Not that he is a fan of Trump. Just because he adopts his mannerisms, positions, language, enemies, defenses etc in no way means he supports him.
Boy doesn’t get his SAT Verbal score up he is definitely (see what I did there?) going to end up at a Directional School.
If FF was attempting to weasel, he originally said the Biden Administration, which is at least arguably different from Biden himself. Sadly, I think he was just too dumb to remember he had said anything about redefining in the first place.
@Steal Your Face - this is just silly. You're claiming that black is white now. They have the receipts. It takes a bigger person to admit they're wrong on occasion. You'll get more respect that way than digging your heels in.
Considered that, but statements like: make it clear that any such weasel games would be a lie about what he meant.
Maybe he will argue that someone went back and edited his posts to pwn him....oh wait, because of his random complaints even individual posters can't edit their own posts, let alone moderators. Not that I'm bitter about the mods kowtowing to those complaints. I guess we're stuck with some sort of temporal flux-based explanation. Someone failed to let Edith Keeler die or had their TARDIS go wibbly-wobbly and here we are with FF denying he accused Biden of redefining stats when he didn't in the Sacred Timeline. He's....trapped in a world he never made!!
It was me I edited every single one of FF's posts for the past nine years to make him look like an idiot.
No they won’t respect me more for it, but sure, I was wrong. I meant the media and Biden’s associates.
I know I bash on the Directional Schools but they are good schools. I wish I could find it on YouTube but there is a hilarious Almost Live (taped local Seattle sketch comedy show that came on before SNL) where a college guidance councilor (played by a young Boeing engineer/amateur comedian & actor named William Nye) tells the students something along the lines of you never want to go to a school that has to remind itself where it is. And because I can’t pass up an opportunity to point out what Republicans used to stand for it isn’t a coincidence that Western, Central and Eastern all became Universities in 1977. Republican Governor Dan Evans believed a quality education should be accessible to all Washingtonians and led the greatest expansion of higher education in state history. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_J._Evans
I can only speak for myself, but yes, I would have respected you somewhat if on first instance you had said, "You're right, I did say Biden redefined recession and he didn't." I would have respected you somewhat more even on second instance you said, "I didn't mean Biden personally, I meant his administration." But when Bailey brought the friggin' thunder with the receipts on what you said and also pointed out your quote about how "Biden likes to play definition games," your "admission" of being wrong is not worthy of any respect. I'd argue it's worth more disrespect because as Bailey pre-emptively showed, you're lying about meaning "the media and Biden's associates" -- or at least, you don't deserve the benefit of any doubt that when you said "Biden" that's what you actually meant. Particularly when, even giving you the benefit of every doubt, it STILL is untrue that the media or the Biden Administration redefined any part of what it means to be in a recession.
no. you clearly didn't. you really oughta change you name to "lose my face", because all you do is embarrass yourself with the continual dishonesty.
Ah yes, the media. The folks whose response to the economy growing is to run a headline saying "Biden is having trouble convincing voters that the economy is growing."
The problem with the economy doing better is that does not work out with the mass of people doing better. This is especially true when people have had to go into debt or downsize over problems they had a couple years back. Sure, businesses may have come back, but if you are now paying off the bills, or your life has taken a more permanent drop in funds you may not be in a better place. Had I not had some money already I would be in a bad position now because the moment I graduated cosmotology school COVID hit, and I would be saddled with a bill wondering whether to try and spend more money to get back my license, or do I just keep on working at whatever job I would have now. Here is the problem with Joe. Joe does not know people, he knows corporations. On the other side you have repugs capitalizing on Joe's real lack of understanding of the everyday person, and making promises to them and talking to them about how things are. You just had three years that sunk people into debt. They do not get out of it as quickly as corporations and the economy do. They are seeing payments on their bills, and things just starting to get back to profit. It is great the corporations that own people are doing better, but I can see why that is not turning into a large round of celebration for the people who are paying the bills while joe and the government fuck around.
