Are you talking about implicit institutional biases, or explicit editorial direction to twist facts to fit an agenda? Because while every media organization is subject to the former, it shouldn't confused with the latter. The irony is that many assume that is how the "liberal media" operates, when in reality the countries whose media are heavily biased in favor of the state are notoriously illiberal.

Put it this way, the BBC is often viewed through the lens of it's entertainment programming which is admirably (most of the time) inclusive and open. We see the female Doctor (for instance) and many are lulled into seeing that as characteristic of the entire organisation.

That tends to blind people to just how differently it's news and (in particular) politics reporting is. If you need an illustration of that thesis, meet our political editor. Yes, she's immediately related to one knighted peer, one high court judge, the former high commissioner to Mozambique and the last British Governer of Nigeria and that's before you notice she's a close personal friend (some say former lover) of Boris Johnson.

I'd say she's more of an establishment figure than most of the people she reports on, but the truth is she's closer to being a colonial throwback and oversees the whole shebang and infuses an already public school loving old boys managerial structure with her personal bias.

Yes, this is the lady who is in charge of our impartial state media who has openly expressed her disdain for Corbyn and called Johnson's victory "well deserved" before the final counts were in.

Which on a personal note makes it very difficult for me to acknowledge I find her incredibly sexy :(

Whilst they were considering it anyway, Trump blew any chance of the decision being seen as multilateral by threatening the UK, France and Germany with 25% automobile tariffs if they refused to declare Iran in violation of the nuclear deal, despite the fact the US pulled out of the damn thing so why wouldn't Iran violate it?

Go with the old ones. I have a Golf that's over 20 years old and has over 450,000 kilometers on it (that's over 270,000 miles, for those of you who don't get out much) and it's still tearing along. Last year I was in Germany with it and took advantage of the lack of speed limits on certain parts of the expressway to see how fast it will go, but I chickened out at 170 km/h. It was still accelerating.

I also have a 2009 Beetle with a shit-ton of miles and it still runs great! Now and then some old timer will say they used to have a Beetle with the engine in the rear. Of course now they are in the front and are 5 cylinder in-line engines with serious acceleration! I don't drive fast on the open road, but it's nice have acceleration when you have to shoot out into the road to beat the "wall o' cars" during rush hour.

she has a point! I was going to post a thread about dozens of impending satanic "buns-in-the-oven" right here in Augusta, but you guys are always ragging on me about passing off local routine news as something noteworthy. :(

So does everyone else. I get the point, but everyone knows the Fed. can’t lower the rates anymore. The market is waaaaay overdue for a crash. I think it’ll come after the election and whoever gets elected will be blamed for it. Our monetary policy has been hanging on a wing and a prayer for way too long. I’d imagine Wall Street knows this and is just crossing their fingers for the next six months.

Now, imagine if Congress had full control over the Fed. Don’t like the President? Drive up interest rates to harm the economy and make sure that the President takes the blame. Like the President? Lower the rates in the months before the election so the President is seen as a positive figure because the economy starts to grow.

Sure, eventually this will cause the economy to implode at some point, but all any politician cares about is the next election, not what happens after they win.
