I'd be interested to hear what @We Are Borg and @14thDoctor have to say about Alberta - from where I sit it just looks like a small group of MAGA wannabes that talk loud on social media saying they would join but there isn't really an appetite for it overall, but maybe I'm wrong?

Danielle Smith, the Wildrose arm of the UCP, and the St. Albert Nazis would join America in a heartbeat without considering the consequences, but I'd like to think everyone else would be opposed.

Even the majority of the "Alberta separatists" don't really want to leave Canada, they just hate that the current prime minister isn't a member of the conservative party. They'd hate living under president Harris just as much as they'd hate living under PM Freeland.

I lived in Calgary for a few years a long time ago. The one thing that unites Alberta is their hatred for Ontario, and I don't think that's changed.

But yeah, I agree with @14thDoctor that other than a vocal group of idiots, most Albertans would not be keen on joining the United States.

My understanding is that due to the way the estimator works the huge jump in imports in early Jan due to folks getting ahead of possible tariffs is treated as a potential new trend. If the imports go back to normal or decrease (people who would be buying an iPhone now bought in Jan instead) then the hit won’t be so hard and will revert closer to the mean over time. Still lower likely but not as big a drop as it looks today.
