Okay, I have an encrypted external HD with about 260 gigs data on it. Unfortunately, it decided that I wasn't worthy and went dead on me (i.e. I could still mount it but then couldn't access it). Tried a couple things (like, rebooting and stuff :finger: ) then used TrueCrypt's (that's how I encrypted it) own "repair" feature (I think that's about the same as r: chkdsk). Had a shower and let it run. Well, I can now access it again. Unfortunately, I miss about 160+ gigs of data.

Most of that isn't too bad - e.g. 100 of those gigs I got from a friend and I can get them again, I assume. Another 10+ gigs was an installation of WoW which, obviously, I can get again as well. Also, another 5-10 gigs were nice to have but not really important ( :weep: - no more new avs for now :( ).

Anyone keeping count can now tell that I'm missing some more stuff which I'd really like to get back. Sure, there are other ways but I'd really rather get it back a bit more easily.
Some of that was, until recently, on another HD - then I copied it to the external HD and deleted it on the original HD. Other things - not so much. :(

So, any help? I think there are programmes out there that'll let you un-delete stuff, right? Any advice on what else to do? That external HD still shows the same amount of data to be on it (i.e. about 260) but it doesn't show up. Any way of getting that back?

Note: I didn't lose any really important stuff (i.e. university related) nor any of my porn. (which annoys me - I'd rather have lost my porn than some of the stuff I'm now missing :garamet: )

The last time I had a problem like this, I was able to rescue just about everything I needed using a usb flash drive and a copy of knoppix. It might be worth a stab.

The files themselves do need to be intact, though. It seems more likely to me that you may need more specialised recovery software.
