See Scorp's thread in The Help Desk.

Needs 3 things: Yea/nay votes, a name, and a moderator, the last 2 required only if you're voting yea of course.

    Vote: Yea
Name: "Press Start" or "Insert Coin"
Moderator: Scorp maybe; his idea, and picking the person who proposes the forum worked well with Alphaman.

I also think we should take the suggestion of giving it more relaxed rules than the normal rules, but not quite Red Room Rules. For example, "you'd have to be an idiot to buy a PS3" is okay, but "Niggers are too poor to buy PS3's" is not.

In other words, Gray Room rules, modified for the subject.

Personally, I like the idea, but we have some staff shortages and issues that need to be addressed before we go making another room. So far we have evenflow who wants to get moved, and no moderators in Media Central and the Workshop.

Blue and White will also need one eventually. It's not an emergency. I found out I can surf from my new job, but I don't know how much time I'll have or how often I'll get around to reading all the threads....especially the white room. I really would rather not get fired right away for looking at porn from work , and I'm not online at night much anymore.

I vote nay. Old idea, wasn't popular enough then, certainly isn't now.

I have a personal attachment to the Blue Room. I'll keep an eye on that while supermodding if that's okay.

The short answer is, we need more people on staff. And now that I think of it, we really don't need another room. Post volume has been rather low as compared to previous years.

We need a complete overhaul of the moderating system.

Aye, I personally think since we're down to such a select few we should institute roving supermods.

We add four new supermoderators (Bear, Mrs. A, Nick, and Phantom), separate the administrators into two groups again (Administrators and Technicians, so we have a clear chain of command for the staff and members to appeal through). Oh, and we make Faisent a "technician".

    Basically:

    Elwood --------- Chat
    |
    Tamar ---------- Technicians
    |
    Super Moderators
    |
    Moderators

I conceived this system when I was just about to leave, and I was saving it for the future, but I felt that the board would benefit from it now. My greatest difficulty in running the board was dealing with Nick's ambiguous position who I had to plead with a number of times just to get things done.

Now we have three, four admins apparently and very little real leadership. I'm just wondering when it'll all come crashing down. *knocks on wood*

Chris: to be fair, it was pretty ambiguous as to exactly what the purpose of WF Arcade was. There was one guideline about where computer and video game threads went, which was only in one non-stickied post that dropped off the front page in days. Most people thought it was JUST for the vB Arcade games we have.

I could take Video Games, so long as I'm allowed to have an opinion on which console is better. :tasvir: Though I'd rather see Scorp as a mod.

Oh, and FFS, put garamet back in charge of The Workshop.

    So:
    Blue: Lanzman
White: ?? not me, but does it really need one? Anything objectionable will be reported (especially if we tell people to).
Media Central: If we don't do a video game forum, I'd go with Scorp. Else... Paladin maybe?
Workshop: garamet... if she won't, draft Prufrock. :ramen:
    Video game, if applicable: Scorp.

How many times must I say no to the roving supermod idea? :marathon:

Edit: garamet has no desire to be a part of the board's management.

As long as there's a supermod who checks it regulary, it should be fine, but I have had to give out warnings for flaming in there before.

Damn... need someone else then. I was only half-joking about Prufrock, BTW. If we can convince him to be online a little bit more, I think he'd be good at it.

We don't need a solid "chain of command." Tamar and I are on-line enough to handle any appeals. I too was once a fan of the structured approach, but it's just a BBS for Christ's sake. If people have to wait a day or two for an answer, it's not the end of the world. :marathon:

Speaking of the White Room...there is sabre-rattling at TK about reporting us to someone for letting underage posters in there. :jayzus:

DarthSikle, of course, and Tyrant/Zodiac with help from GrammourBoy/Speck. Is this going to cause us problems if they actually do it?

You'd have to change it to invite-only or Elwood/Tamar approval required or some such. The self-join (:soma:) feature is what could cause trouble.

And I agree with the sentiment that "less is more" when it comes to managing a BBS. A few gunslingers do a better job than an army of volleyball referees.

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women.

Oh, and Bailey has accepted the mod gig in the video game forum if we go forward with it.
