Posting this again here: Good advice for people who feel unsafe about voting in person but now fear the USPS will be unable to deliver a “mail-in” ballot in a timely fashion thanks to SCROTUS' sabotage. There is a way around it: 1. Request a mail-in ballot. 2. Do not mail it. 3. Google your supervisor of elections to see where you can drop off your mail-in ballot. Its usually NOT THE POLLING PLACE. All states allow this! Here is what you're accomplishing by doing this: 1. Your ballot gets in on time no matter what happens to the USPS. 2. You don't have to worry about standing in long lines and risking infection. You're just stopping by to drop it off. 3. You still voted! Hooray! Also, when you drop it off, find out how to track it online to make sure it is verified. California, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado have systems that can track your ballot just like tracking a package from Amazon. All CA vote centers (which are open for weeks to a month before election day) have ballot drop-off boxes too! Many government buildings have them as well, so there's no need to wait until election day when it's crowded to drop them off. The list of drop-off sites is always posted on each county's voter info website. ***This is very important and I would appreciate everyone who sees this to copy it on their page.
I would guess there would have to be at least tacit agreement from the local postmasters. But even if someone were to get in trouble, I'm sure John Lewis would call it "good trouble."
I do not really get how the mail sorting machines and boxes are huge costs for the post office. The whole argument makes no sense that you remove machines that are doing a job that have little cost. The maintenance and electricity to run a sorting machine has got to be a fraction of the cost for a person to do the sorting. What could it cost to have one of those mail collection boxes on a street where the public owns it? How much manpower does it take to stop and collect the mail from these boxes, and to maintain them? I know it is an outright lie that removing any of these devices actually saves money. To actually remove and trash the mailboxes would cost so much money that the tiny minescule savings you got from not having that location would take years to recover. Even then it might be said that the costs of not having such a nexus would require more work to travel to pick up mail from all the people who use those drop offs, and the losses of people using other services would ruin any savings you might get. These things make the post office cost more, and less efficient. If you think otherwise you are a fucking moron (AKA trump supporter)
That's nice and all, but I've worked in places that use those kinds of machines. Even if they were carefully removed (which seems unlikely), it's going to take them a while to get them up and running again properly.
Congratulations. You've sussed this out all by yourself... over a week after everyone else figured it out.
It's the "We're Mad as Hell and We're Not Going to Take It Anymore!" factor I'm more interested in. Anything that pushes that mofo further into a corner is a win.
Then take pity on those poor postal workers who are up to their necks in rotted food and dead baby chickens thanks to Your Boy Donnie.
Still lying. You are the one supporting a rapist, not me. I do not support donald either, but you keep on pretending I am because you are more than willing to vote for a rapist. How does it feel to be voting for a rapist? I am not sure I know the feeling.
King County Elections on FB: Our 70th drop box was installed today at South Seattle College! Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve been getting some questions about drop boxes. Here’s some info we hope will be helpful as we look ahead to the General -- - All drop boxes will open on Oct 15. Ballots are mailed on Oct 14 & you should receive it by Oct 19. If you don’t, call us at 206-296-VOTE (8683). - Drop boxes are emptied daily during the voting period by KCE staff, in teams of 2. Extra pick ups also happen on Mon/Tues of Election Week as boxes get busier. Ballots are securely transported back to KCE HQ for processing. - Drop boxes are a secure way to get your ballot right back into the hands of King Co Elections. You do not need to come to a Vote Center in person unless you need to get registered or need other assistance. If you must come in person, wear a mask please. - The earlier you return your ballot, the better. That applies to both mail and drop boxes. Boxes can get lines in the last days if you all wait. Don’t wait to return your ballot. Don’t wait in line. Easy peasy. - Drop boxes close at 8 pm sharp on Election Night. That’s 8:00:00. Not 8 pm + 1 second. Definitely not 8:02 pm. For heaven’s sake, not 8:10 pm. Don’t gamble with your vote by waiting til the last minute. Get it done early and avoid the last-minute rush. - There is a drop box within a 3-mile radius of 96% of King County voters. That’s you. There’s likely a drop box within 3 miles of you.
