Daughter went out tonight. As you can see, I'm up late tonight (it's nearly 3 am here), so I told her to save the cost of a cab and phone me for a lift when she was finished. 'Can you give K a lift home, too?' 'K' is female, in her early 20s. 'Er, sure, no problem, why do you ask?' 'Because if we don't give her a lift, she'll walk home alone.' This isn't a high crime town, and K lives very near the town centre. But while I refuse to give in to the paranoia of the age, I also believe it's absolutely crazy for any young woman to walk home alone late at night. Thoughts?
You're in the right. A twenty-something girl walking home by herself late at night, it's just asking for trouble. J.
Yep nothing wrong with you. No need for anyone to be walking that late on their own. Better safe than sorry.
Nothing paranoid at all about it. When I'm in Calgary visiting friends, I don't walk around at night either by myself.
She needs a gun or something if she is going to do that. One of those tazer things or something might work, or at least some mace.
Okay, I agree that guns are good for self defense. But I'm not the type of person that intentionally goes out walking 'alone' at night, in a city, just to look for trouble.
Every young girl should keep a pthaloblue moon mask to wear when strolling after dark. No better way to ensure that those grabby hands stay away.
Quite right. Though actually attempting to murder or even murdering somebody is probably covered in the EU charter regarding ethnic tolerance regulations. In related news, I hear they're bringing back capital punishment in cases of homeowners locking their front doors at night.
You did the right thing. In knife crazy UK you would have found her body in the morning with 150 plus stabbings in it.
I guess it depends on where you are. There are several areas here in Munich where I wouldn't hesitate to have young woman walk home alone at night. Others, not so much. But amazingly and rarely, I agree with ep here. In many situations, it might be better not to risk it; but in others, arming yourself might be better for your general attitude than hiding in groups.
Better safe than sorry is just what I was thinking. I'd feel bad if I didn't talk someone into letting me give them a ride in that situation.
Does K swallow? It's important! I think you did the right thing, Linda. It's an unsafe, crazy world that we live in nowadays.
If "K" is anything like the women here in the midwest, she should be O.K. Most of the women where I live will shoot you faster than a man will
