39 years ago today, Montreaux Casino went up in flames during a Frank Zappa concert when one of his fans fired off a flare gun. As awesome as fire alone it, there's more to this event. Now, I don't know if anyone died and really don't give a shit either way, but that event gave us Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water, and pretty much the first riff every beginning rock guitarist learns.
It's amazing how many people think the song is about a bong when it's really about the fire that burned the Montreaux Casino, started by "some stupid with a flare gun"
