    Feast your eyes on this:

Charitable giving to take a hit from the tax law
    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/charitable-giving-to-take-a-hit-from-the-tax-law/

So charities are worried that Americans will not donate as much because there's no financial incentive to do so with the new standard deduction.

I'm not a saint by any means, but when I donate shit I'm not doing it for a tax deduction. Isn't the point of giving to the less fortunate that you're sacrificing something? But hey, if you can feel generous and save a few bucks on your taxes in the process, good for you.

This just blows my mind, though. To think that small donors will stop donating to food banks, etc. because there's no financial incentive to do so is disgusting. In the end, you'd think basic altruism would win out. I hope it does.

Makes you wonder what it would be like if the social safety net was removed.

B-but the standard Libertarian/Conservative screed is "If people paid fewer taxes they'd donate more to charity."

    What happened?

Are there any charities worth donating to? MSF, doctors without borders are opperating a people smuggling ring, most of the cancer stuff goes to awareness.

Are middle class people giving $50 or $100 to the United Way or St. Jude's or the American Red Cross really doing it for the tax deduction? Heck, I itemize every year and, though I've given out charitable contributions, I've never once claimed one.

 I'm still going to give just as much as (or more than) I ever did. I give according to how much I make, not how much I think I'm going to get back.

I never take a tax exemption when I donate. The point of charity is to be charitable, not for a financial incentive.

Okay, but if Congress and Der Drumpfenfuhrer take more of your income in taxes in 2018, will you still have enough to donate?

Probably not but the big donors, who make up the bulk of giving probably are. You will notice that the donor class demanded a bigger tax deduction for bribing politicians and Republicans bent over backwards to accommodate in their rent abortion of a tax giveaway bill. My they rot in hell forever.

I thought individuals were getting temporary tax breaks? Anyway, for me I wait until I have a enough stuff piled up to take to the red cross, it doesn't depend so much on my income.

I don't file claims. If I'm donating, it's because I can part with the money, and have no desire in getting it back. I want it to work as intended, as a seed.

Why wouldn't you file a deduction? If you did this would leave you with more discretionary income to donate. Idiot.

Not expire, necessarily, but if you think your taxes won't be higher in 2019, you're delusional.

Because I don't have an income, @steve2^4. Perhaps before making assumptions, you should ask about the economic circumstances first.

cool. Sorry, I thought you had some money to part with.

No, I would not care to know anyone's economic circumstances.

    http://www.businessinsider.com/will-my-taxes-go-up-or-down-under-trump-tax-reform-bill-2017-12
    • Based on the JCT's 2019 unit figure, that means just under 8.5 million units would see their taxes increase next year.
The number is higher for middle-income earners:

    • 7.3% of people in the middle quintile — those making between $48,600 and $86,100 — will see their tax bill increase.
    • While the JCT's income groups don't align perfectly with the TPC's, a rough estimate shows that would mean 2.75 million to 3 million middle-income units would see an increase.

Oh...the "everybody will see a tax cut" vs. "everyone on average by tax bracket will see a tax cut" thing? Yeah...the Repubs got caught out fibbing about that, but it doesn't mean everyone will see a tax increase. It means some people will see an increase.

I'm in that middle quintile, and unless I'm missing something, if 7.3% of that bracket will see an increase, then doesn't that mean 92.7% won't see an increase?

One of my grade school music teachers I follow on Facebook was spewing this shit. "The rich will give more now that they don't pay as many taxes!"

Funny, my broke AF ass manages to donate money to causes and I don' see massive dividends in my income tax. Maybe cuz I'm not a sociopath who only cares about money.

The article says could, that means it also couldn't happen.
