My six yr old has been asking for a DS for awhile and saving up his money and someone has a DS Lite with some age appropriate games on the Buy and Sell. I'm supposed to pick it up on Monday. But what is a DS Lite? The only gaming systems I sort of know are the Wii and the PSP we have and really I ignore both of them beyond telling my husband to stop buying so many games a month....my research says its pretty much a really basic version of a DS?
It is the second gen Nintendo portable game system. First was the DS (DS stands for double screen), then the DS Lite and now the DS 3D is the third iteration.
if he wanted a regular DS and you got a DS lite, he'd be happy. it's a slightly nicer version of the older one.
This is a regular Nintendo DS: It came out in late 2004. It had a color screen and touchpad capabilities, one of the first devices to do so. It had a slot for both Nintendo DS games and the big clunky slot at the bottom was for Game Boy Advance games. The Game Boy Advance (abbreviated GBA) was the previous game system. Then Nintendo came out with the Nintendo DS Lite. Here is the DS Lite: Notice it's thinner, has a more boxy, clean look, and the screen is brighter than the regular DS. This is the system that really got me into handheld gaming. The battery lasted a lot longer than the regular DS, and I lugged it around with me everywhere. They came out with many different colors of the DS Lite, and as of mid-2011, this device has sold more than 93 million copies, making it, by far, the handheld gaming system that has sold the most copies, ever. They then came out with the 3DS last year, which includes a faster processor, tilt sensitivity, two cameras, and analog stick, and, taking advantage of lenticular technology, added 3D gaming to their portfolio. It's the only gaming system and piece of technology, including TVs and monitors, where you can actually see images in 3D without having to use 3D glasses! It must be seen to be believed! I am not sure if Nintendo has this technology patented. Here is the 3DS: If you're buying it from someone off Kijiji or craigslist, I'd be sure to check to make sure all the buttons are working, as some of the DS-Lites have a common problem where the two top buttons on the top-side of the device (the L and R buttons) fail. And make sure that if your child is asking for a DS, to make sure he's not actually talking about the 3DS, which all the kids want nowadays, because it is new, and you can see images in 3D. They will get upset if they were expecting to see stuff in 3D and their device won't do it. Also, Nintendo says the 3DS isn't recommended for very young children, because their device is made to work for people with a certain eye distance apart, and young children have their eyes a little too close together, so children staring at the screen too long may cause eye strain and all sorts of other problems if they play it.
I have one I have been thinking about selling on E-Bay. I wonder how much they are going for. But then I think I will use it someday........not really. I should just sell it.
As has been previously said, the DS Lite is a nicer version of the DS. The DSi is an even better version of that with larger screens, and a sleeker design. Also, it had an internet shop and stuff, which the DS and Lite didn't have. The 3DS is an actual jump in systems, like a significant hardware jump. As in you can't play 3DS games on an older DS.
^^ But you CAN play DS games on a 3DS, or am I mistaken? To further muddle up the process, the DS and DS Lite also had a port that allowed you play Game Boy Advanced cartridges. The DSi and the 3DS do not.
If they made an orange Dee-Lite themed 3DS, I couldn't ask for another. Ah-ah-ah-ah-I couldn't ask for another.
