So, my parents have some property out in the middle of no where, which was actually the old family stomping grounds for a long time. They now live in another part of the state, and some years back, they decided to stop maintaining the place over winter since the old house there loses heat horribly. Eventually they plan to tear the old house down, so they got a camper to stay in. The camper runs off of a car battery, so as you might imagine, you can't use the lights and such for an extended period of time or it just goes dead. I suppose they could get a generator, but more recently I've actually started to wonder about getting some solar panels to charge multiple batteries for the camper. Anyone know what all I would need to set up something like that and how much it would cost?
Here's a website that has a detailed, but not too technical, breakdown of the issues involved. If you're on Facebook, there's a number of DIY groups dedicated to doing this.
you'll need panels, batteries and an inverter. You'll want to over size what you need by 20% as panels lose 1-2% efficiency a year. A solar company will give you a design and quote.
A camper is a tiny home. You can get a kit with panel and inverter for less than $200 that will stick right to the roof.
I was saying just in general. I don't live in that camper - that's just a place to crash when I'm back at the old family stomping grounds.
