So, what are you planning on for Thanksgiving dinner? I got sausage stuffing (dressing), mashed potatoes with cream cheese in it, apple strudel, roasted mini pumpkins, white gravy, homemade cranberry sauce, roasted mixed squash and root veggies, and skillet fried turkey breasts and thighs. What's you gots?
I'm wine-braising some roast beef in a cast iron pot/dutch oven thing in one of my barbecue pits as well as grilling/smoking some cornish hens. Right now I'm waiting for those little fuckers to finish thawing so I can put them in a marinade overnight. My wife is making a bunch of sides, including sweet potatoes, green bean caserole, jalapeno corn () and some other stuff. This afternoon/evening my daughters made a couple of pies and some cheesecake cupcake things.
I don't particularly care for turkey, so we're having ham, chicken and dressing, vegetable casserole, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, deviled eggs, celery stalks stuffed with cream cheese/mint jelly, and red velvet cake.
Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, homemade gravy, corn, rolls, green bean casserole, yams with marshmallow topping, and pies (cherry, pumpkin, and pecan). Turkey has been brining since last night and will get fried. I'm about to get to work on the pie dough. I have a love/hate realtionship with Thanksgiving. I love to cook, but it's such a big production and the relatives come over. I kind of miss the college days when Thanksgiving was a big turkey pot pie, a shit ton of beer, and just watching football.
We are going to Golden Corral for all you can eat - so the food choices are virtually unlimited. I wish I could opt out and not have the AYCE. That could be an option - I will find out when I get there. Since I only have half a stomach, I am limited. Regardless, it's Thanksgiving, so I am thankful I am not missing a stomach completely!
Soooo muchhh fooood. Started off at my house. Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole (my personal fav.), sweet potato casserole, and rolls... second stop at my other grandparents house. turkey, gravy, and dressing, peas, corn on the cob, boiled onions, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes...i think thats all... then of course, half a piece of pumpkin pie with whipped cream, half a piece of apple crunch pie with ice cream... then when i got home I had to have some german chocolate cake. needless to say I'm in pain and won't be eating again for a while..
We made enough food for three days including pumpkin pie made almost from scratch. Pretty easy to make actually.
The cornish hens turned out really well. It was the first time I've cooked them. I marinated them for 14(?) hours in lemon juice, soy sauce, ginger and scallions, then glazed them with a teriaki/ginger/scallion mixture while they were cooking.
BTW, here's the braised beef recipe if anyone is interested. I ended up using a couple of small beef roasts instead of brisket because the grocery store was sold out of small trimmed briskets. Turned out the same, though.
Here are the mini squashes: and here is the plate of food. Tha album is here with desxcriptions of contents. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=36755&id=100000420709182&l=4bb8e4c9e7
Had potatoes with my vegan friend earlier, she just left so I'm baking a cornish game hen. Will have a pumpkin pie and corn later, too.
Turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing, cranberry, biscuits, apple pie, pumpkin pie, and chocolate cheesecake. Oh, and football. For me, the apple pie was the shiz.
I'm having left over little Caesars pizza. I hate Turkey and thank goodness we did not make one this year. How come the pilgrims didn't eat Beef on thanksgiving? I don't really care for City ham either.
Your liver, with a nice Chianti. Anyway, why didn't the pilgrims eat beef for Thanksgiving? Probably because bringing them over the pond (at least in the intial trips) would not have been practical.....but I'm guessing here. Do you know why some soldiers carried a harmonica with them into battle? Because a grand piano was too heavy....I learned that on The History Channel yesterday!
Turkey, dressing, green beans, peas, pickles, green bean casserole, crab dip, spinach dip, corn, cranberry sauce, cranberry jelly (they're not the same thing), rolls, mashed taters, gravy, olives, ambrosia, and pie. Apple, cherry, and pumpkin.
If those damnable Injuns had their shit wired, we'd all be eating fillet mignon with sauteed mushrooms and a baked potato.
