I'm curious, where in the rules does it say that impersonating a mod or an admin, or the owner is a warnable offense? Or an offense at all? Is it only in the new room, or does it apply across the board?

Is this to stop any possible confusion? Don't the mods and admins know who they are? And can't the rest of us, including newbies, tell by the shiny pip's and the FAQ?

If it's now a rule, it needs to be, you know, in the rules. If it isn't, then Face's thread needs to be re-opened, and Grammour Boy's warning needs to be resinded.

Oh, and would it be a good idea to put Pandora's Box up at the top where the old Embassay was?

Reasonable people consider such things to be a rather obvious form of trolling, and since we already have a rule about THAT, then yes, there's already a rule against it.

How were those threads a troll, and who did they troll exactly?
They seemed like mildly funny WF style threads. Not trolling ones.

And nick didn't say trolling, he said: "Warning issued to Grammour Boy. Don't go impersonating administrators"

Spamming/trolling without any prior contribution + trolling outside of the Red/Gray Room = warning.

God, even I can see that, mark.

Face has over 15,000 post and GB has over 2,000, so prior contribution is established. And GB was warned for impersonating an Admin, not trolling.

As to that, who was it trolling and how? And if you're going where I think you are, is every post or thread poking fun of the board, or a member, or a group of members going to now be considered a troll? How about humorously accusing someone of being your dual, does that count too?

Here's a wild concept: GB got the warning, if GB has a problem with it, he'll come here himself or contact the mod in question via PM. I'm rather sure he doesn't need a BBS lawyer, and least of all you.

I don't think Face got warned...

As for GB, he has a history of "barging in without contributing" already.

It was in a non-RR forum. He was claiming to be an admin. He was threatening new users with a ban if they didn't comply.

If you can't understand that, you're beyond help.

I'd care what you have to say if you were in a position of power, but for the time being you're not. So I choose to ignore your obvious trolling statements.

The reason Mark raises this concern is because it seems to be one of a kind - a new rule that has never been seen before. And if it is, it's not just GB's problem, it's all of WF's problem.

If you can't see that, well,

That shiny yet evil new policy is called 'common sense'. Do you need a written rule/guideline to realize that impersonating an admin in a n00b forum is a bad idea, or do you just want a new rule so that you have a new toy to [-]whine and complain [/-] 'ask' about?

I'm pretty sure I know the answer.

She's right this time, you know.

In what way is trolling the staff not trolling? It is also trolling any new people who join, trying to fool them into PMing him and having a laugh at their expense?

Is that your idea of welcoming new people to WF?

No matter what follows that clause, it would appear that, for a large number of people, the answer is "yes." They seem to have forgotten why, ultimately, we all got away from TBBS.

    I disagree.

How was he trolling the staff? Or pontential noobs?
Who would fall for it anyway; he has no pips, he's not listed in the FAQ, and one post by a mod saying he wasn't really a mod or admin, that it was a joke thread and....oohhh no problem.
It seemed like a mildly amusing parody thread, nothing more. Or was it just because a particular member created it, that made people get uptight?

Better to have a humorous parody thread showing people everything is all in good fun, then to show them that the staff is very touchy over who post what. Or, always accusing a noob of being a dual. Then yeah.

Just can't stop it, can you. Do you realize how stupid and transparent you make yourself look on that particular warpath? Makes you look as if you didn't get the concept of 'Hi, look around!' at all. But you do, because you're a smart guy.

    So you're just trolling.

    Again.

Because you simply deserve it after a week of actually posting instead of shit stirring.

^ Doesn't change anything. You see a chance to stir, you take it. Just answer my simple question:

Do you really think we need a written rule that forbids posters to impersonate admins in a forum that is per se for new posters? Yes or no?

If you are going to give out warnings specifically for doing so, as opposed to saying something on the order of "Ignore the clown, he's not a mod" then maybe you should.

    Which one seems less troublesome?

    You ask the wrong question.

Do you really think we need to be handnig out warnings to posters who impersonate admins? Especially when it's obvious they are not.

Can't simply say yes or no, can you? There's always one more 'question', one more probe, one more little chance for something big.

I think the rest of us will simply go with the obvious answer. Kudos to the staff who still pretend to take you seriously - I couldn't.

The warning, as it sets a firm and fair precedent when someone else tries it (and they invariably will).

There are people who have been here for years who don't know who the staff are. I was on staff four years and there were people up to the end going..."You're on staff?"

Not everyone pays close attention...and it isn't a lot to expect you people to behave in certain forums. You have your forums for cutting loose...use 'em.

And no matter how hard you try, this is not going to become a no-warning, no-consequences board. You have TK or if one of you gets to making it, your own board for that. WF strives to provide a place for people with varying levels of interest and various skin thickness. You can always stay in the Red and Gray rooms as well.

Unfortunate choice of words, Tamar. Wordforge cares not how thick anyone's skin is . . . you can't take the heat, stay out of the Red Room. Just because some forums are moderated more closely than others doesn't mean we're going to pussify the place like was done to TNZ over at Trek.

If we didn't care about skin thickness, there wouldn't be varying levels of moderation. :marathon:

The whole point of moderated forums is that some people prefer to post in a non-aggressive environment. And we want all kinds of people to post here. Oh, and just because someone doesn't want to be evicerated day and night, doesn't mean they are a "pussy" either. :marathon:

Of course we don't give a crap in the Red Room..that is the point. Red and Gray are for that purpose...use 'em. Don't whine because the whole board doesn't conform to the Red Room's standards. Just stay where you are happy.

When someone tries what? Stealing the Wordforge El Camino? Going for Elwoods gun?
Again, it was a jokey thread that deserved nothing more then a simple "he's not an admin, just a doofus" type post in response.
But I forget, this Admin type stuff on a BBS is real serious bidness.:jayzus:
