Lately, I find that the posters with whom I find myself in agreement the most often are Packard, tafkats, gul, garamet, Diacanu... Something is very wrong here!
Ok, I'll try to be more blatantly liberal if you'll promise to put more work into your fundie profile.
The last good Fundie was Shep, and that was a long time ago, back when he was speculating about God having experimented with creating life forms before humans came along. I'll never forget him writing about a possible race of lizard people, like the Sleestak!
Now that I'm a member of Eliteforge, if you make me a moderator, I promise a reign of terror that will be remembered until the very end of history, and even beyond!
Arrived back at the beginning, natch, as he seems to be more-or-less lamenting that he's graduated from agreeing with you. Now if you stop playing for team conservative and start making actual conservative arguments again, maybe that circle will close. Notice also that Async didn't say he agrees with the listed posters more often than he used to agree with them, just that they're the one's he agrees with most often these days. I don't think that Async or those posters have changed all that much, but the quality of conservative argument around here most definitely has.
Whereas if you made more posts like this one and fewer of the lowest-common-denominator type, the quality of liberal argument would improve as well.
Oddly, I was JUST thinking (in the thread about insulting people's family members) that you and garamet are two of the people I consistently end up agreeing with during board-related arguments, and that it seemed like an interesting mix... though maybe not all THAT surprising a one. Actually, the way Wordforge consistently defies being broken down into easy categories is one of the things I like about it.
I think part of it is that Async and I have spent more of our lives outside of this newfangled Internet thing than inside it, and we still labor under the delusion that Real Life behaviors should apply even if no one can punch you in the face. The fact that some people can't seem to behave like people unless there is a threat that they'll be punched in the fact is just sad.
No, sorry, that's not it. Plenty of decent people and spots on the internet, plenty of complete assholes in real life.
It's at least part of it. The rest is what you said. So why does the RR seem to attract more than its share of people who can't behave unless they think someone's likely to punch them in the face?
Most other folks are not present much (hi!) or make shitty arguments, and while Packard, tafkats, gul, and Diacanu may be wrong, they at least recognize a shitty argument when they see it. I have absolutely no idea why you find yourself in agreement with garamet.
Yes, I often wonder when she actually writes her books, as she can't seem to go 5 seconds without posting. Judging from the androgynous-looking pictures of her on the net, it doesn't appear that she's a 900 - lb heart attack/stroke waiting to happen a la Dickynoo.
That is very precise, and dangerously close to math in the Red Room. Which would explain what's wrong with the Red Room.
You really don't understand anything, do you? Well, now that Muad has chosen the path of his forebears and retreated, I think we can allow for Math in the Red Room.
Warning to garamet for math in the Red Room Comments to MA... I hear it's Cambridge's turn today, not Boston.
