My play is being read at two major lit agencies and I just asked to write a spec pilot for a project that Disney is interested in. I'm not trying to brag...and maybe nothing will come of any of it...but damn!
Meeting went really well. The two agents are super nice, honest and really easy to talk to. We spent about half an hour chatting about my work, what they do and how we might fit together. The upshot is they want to see more work I've done, so I'm sending them a spec I wrote, the pilot I just finished and a few sketches and short plays. They said they'll read what I wrote and we'll talk. I think it's a great sign that they want to read more from me and in general that two busy lit agents each took half an hour to chat with me. They also have connections to Disney XD, where we're going to be pitching the pilot, so I talked to my friend who's repping it about what I should do. This could be a GREAT fit for me.
Things be dragging. The agents I met with last month STILL haven't read the material I passed along (though they haven't passed on me outright, so that's something), and I'm re-drafting the pilot I wrote for Disney after I got a bunch of notes from some writers and industry folks I respect. But on the upside...I'm 20 pages into a new play, I'll be having some pieces performed at a salon in Chicago, got a short play accepted into the same showcase I did last month AND I scored a nice freelance gig that could be some easy, steady money. On we go.
Pilot is officially with Disney. Honestly, I don't believe luck will have anything to do with this. We've got a great script and contacts in the company. New play is coming along nicely...50 some-odd pages in, and self-imposed deadline to finish by the time I leave for Chicago for Thanksgiving. Some other short things I'm working on too, including a Christmas play. Also close to booking another really sweet semi-permanent freelance gig. If I can get enough freelance work in, I'll be fine until the pilot sells and/or I get an agent.
would it be bad form to tell us anything about the pilot? if for no other reason than so we can smile if we seen news about it?
Does it feature a jailbait singer and her laid-back yet concerned/involved father? Can you tell us that much?
Will this pilot coincide with a simultaneous movie, rock album and ownership of your favorite bar? And if so will there be a documentary of your rise to power? Sorry, just watched Overnight last week.
