Thank you for being willing to admit that not a vandalism based on hate is worse than one that is not. As I said, that is the philosophical underpinning behind hate crime laws.

As to whether this particular situation should invoke a hate crime charge, it is too early. Even taking the victim's account as true, it is not inherently clear that the woman was targeted or the attack was worsened because she was white and her attackers were black. Even assuming the attackers are arrested and it's shown that they have a history of making anti-White sentiments, some prosecutors might look at the case and say they do not believe they can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that in this particular case, they were motivated by the victim's race (or any other attribute) to commit this crime.

Guy I worked construction with in Phoenix had a wife who was a nurse. One time in the trauma center of her hospital they had a victim missing ears. He was robbed at the ATM and when the robbers found out he didn't have much money, they beat him unconscious then one of them bit-his-ears-off.

The Matthew Sheppard case was thoroughly investigated at the time. Attempting to rewrite history now ..., well, that's what the right have been doing for a century regarding slavery. Best clean your own house before pointing out imperfections in others.
