White Lotus is about an upscale Hawaiian resort that focuses on 3 groups of travelers as they go on vacation. The first is an upper middle class family that consist of Gen X Mom & Dad (Steve Zahn), college aged Gen Z daughter (the nice-titty girl from Euphoria) and a high school son. They were nice enough (and rich enough) to allow the daughter to bring along a friend from college, a black girl. The next group is an uber rich guy who is on his honeymoon with formerly lower to mid middle class wife. The last is a rich older lady (played by Stifler's mom from American Pie) who is traveling alone and she has brought her recently deceased Mom's ashes to spread at her favorite locale. The Resort staff kind of stole the show for me. The concierge named Armond is a trip. Natasha Rothwell (Insecure) is Belinda, the resort's Massouse (sp?)/Massage therapist/Aesthetician. I have to admit that after the first episode, I wasn't sure if I was going to finish this show. I found myself resenting the entitled and privileged nature of some of the characters while rolling my eyes at the super-woke and shallow attitudes of the others. The willingness of the resort staff to cater to these people disgusted me. I've been to Hawaii a few times and was dragged to a Luau or two and let me tell you... I was a little uncomfortable. As a black man seeing these native Hawaiians perform for a mostly white crowd was unsettling. In the end you have to chalk it up as these people being nice and welcoming enough to share a bit of their culture and history with you but I wonder how they really feel about it and the people in the audience too... How are they taking it? Usually, a show like this has a "straight" character that general audiences can identify with and that character serves as your "eyes and ears" to the story. After 2-3 episodes, I can honestly say that I didn't really like or identify with any of the people in this story. Maybe Belinda? I kind of felt sorry for Tanya (Stifler's Mom). I think what kept me watching was seeing the beauty of Hawaii and remembering my trips there as well as seeing these characters who are so authentically written and well acted "bump into" and interact with each other. By the time the last episode airred, I felt that I kind of had a better understanding of where everyone was coming from and why social change is so elusive.... and that maybe the way young people are going about it may not be the best approach. Great show!!
I kinda lost you at the "shallow attitudes" line after you referred to an actress as "the nice titty girl", TBH.
Well, to be fair, I think that conflict between the different attitudes is the meat and potatoes of the show. The rich and priviledged up against the regular everyday folks. For me, this show made me question a lot of my assumptions. Mike White, the sole writer and director of this show has to be a man of some wealth and priviledge. So at first I thought he was using his platform to express his ideas on this conflict but after seeing the show, I really don't think so. I think he just thought it was an interesting conflict. And not for nothing, Sydney Sweeny does have nice tits. I didn't know her name at the time but I regret describing her like that.
I've heard good things about this show. Does the Euphoria girl and/or Steve Zahn get naked? That's the deciding factor for me.
No. But there is some nudity in a few scenes IIRC. Don’t let that stop you. This is an anthology show so Steve Zahn & Sydney Sweeney are not in season 2. Brand new cast.
I just started watching this series. First episode, there's an extreme close-up of Zahn's ballsack. Or it could be a stunt double.
