Yeah. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of Ameeican-style capitalism but communism on anything but a neighborhood-sized scale has been proven a failure. I'm willing to try something new that hasn't proven to get people killed.
But no suggestion of how one might address that particular issue. It wasn't Async who suggested changing the way the US funds schools, it was O2C. If we can afford to throw over $1 trillion down a "rathole" we can figure out how to fund education. And every dollar spent on education creates $7 in the economy, while only $3 when spent on defense, according to some estimates. It just makes economic sense to fund education more than the military, especially when our current military budget is larger than the combined military budgets of several nations.
Pointing out there's a problem and suggesting a solution > pointing out there's a problem and not suggesting a solution, but pointing out there's a problem and not suggesting a solution >> pointing out there's a problem and demand to burn it all down.
Yet there are ways to say, "I recognize that this is a needed solution, but other problems are equally important and I don't know how to deal with them, even if I realize that they need to be dealt with." IMHO, Async didn't do that. YMMV. Given that the subject of this thread is someone who opted for the "If I can't get 100% of what I want, then we need to burn it all down" perhaps you can understand my confusion as to why someone who wasn't in favor of "burning it all down" didn't feel the need to spell that out.
Was typing a reply but O2C pretty much said it. I doubt Async would be in the line of work he was if he believed small change wasn't worth of effort.
Not true. I have stated on various occasions over the last six months or so, with the issue being part of the electoral debate, that I am in favor of it. Why is it acceptable for you to put words into people's mouths, and then criticize them for things they never said? Is it okay if I criticize you for not being opposed to canibalism, and then justify it by saying, "Well, you never said you were opposed to it"?
