Well, considering a few vets posting on WF came up with examples off the top of their heads, I'm guessing if push came to shove and the military as a whole came together to brainstorm rather than politics (hard keeping a straight face I know) we could get countless workable solutions to saving money while not compromising effectiveness.

But sadly here's the bottom line (or lack of one as it were):
the military/gubmint DOESN'T HAVE TO make a profit! They can be as wasteful as they want - it's not like another military is competing with them!

Yes, the military has "oversight" which is the government - the fox guarding the chicken coop to the extreme.

So who suffers? The taxpayers, which are in a sense almost all of us, save the extremely poor.

Anywho, here's an oldie but a goodie:

May - "Don't waste the toilet paper! We're out of funds. You might have to buy TP with your own money, there's just no supply funds left."

August - "we got the funding. We can buy toilet paper. That's really all we need, since we didn't waste much money on supplies throughout the year."

September - "WTF? You guys better start ordering stuff you don't need! The fiscal year deadline is near! Take ten shits a day and order top of the line TP along with buggy whip wax, Swiss Army knives, Sham Wow, Shake Weights, portable kitten showers, everything you can!"

November - "your budget has been reduced since you didn't spend enough ordering buggy whip wax last fiscal year."

Yeah, the EFV might have been okay as a troop-deliverer, but on land it would be a big, lumbering target without adequate armor to protect those troops. Air cushion is the way to go.

I fully admit my Armchair Admiral status when it comes to this kind of stuff, but my concern is whether or not those things have enough reserve buoyancy to float when the air cushion gets shot to hell.

Bosnia came pretty close. Whole neighborhoods living in shot up crumbling homes with rusted cars propping up their balconies isn't too cool.

But enough about the neighborhood next to the Atlanta Airport waiting for my jet to take off for Bosnia! :polarslam:

    We have fun.

If Srebenica (look it up) is any indication that some European nations have no problem with mass extermination that can put the Islamic Extremists to shame, I can live without another European war.
