Which one can't take seriously as Europeans by and large have often expressed derision for American presidents. They did for George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Harry Truman.

They liked President Obama because they "couldn't believe those racists in America would actually elect a black as president".
They liked President Clinton because his personal conduct evoked similarities to various European leaders (like Mitterrand).
They liked Eisenhower for his role in World War Two saving Europes collective asses. (though they got pretty steamed about the Suez Crisis).

This is ultimately a difficult thread because while it's undeniably true that Americans tend to be thin skinned, the smugness with which Chup started this thread is also a load of bollocks.

 

I would say that in general Americans tend to be skin thinned only when foreigners don't "stay in their lane" AKA talk shit about things they really aren't that familiar with.
Certainly foreigners can ask questions or offer opinions but when they think they have "skin in the game" over how we run our country that's when things get uncomfortable.

 

Agreed completely. I always thought it was amazing that Europeans would get up in arms about Texas executing someone. Acting like Texas is some kind of alien planet to them

I also remember in the aftermath of the 2000 election Europeans posting stuff about not being able to understand how it was possible for the person who received less of the popular vote to win a presidential election in the U.S. when it had happened three times before in the U.S. and has been a possibility for more than two hundred years.

 

It doesn't bother me when Europeans can't understand our election process. What I don't get is how they go off the rails with the Trump/conservative/republican hate when 99 percent of the motherfuckers will never live, work or vote here. Newsflash.....see that big fucking pond on the west coast of your continent? Handle what happens on your side of it, okay? And to our neighbors to the north? Ditto.

 

Well, someone on spacebattles (lots of Europeans used to post there) once explained it to me when I basically told him the same thing. He/she basically said "the U.S. is so large and powerful that even if Americans don't want to influence the rest of the world they can't help but do so".
