I think automation is inevitable regardless of whether teenagers are allowed to work or not. Mom and pop stores would be your best be at that point.

If you widen the goalposts to anything less than Grizzly Adams is "collectivism" sure, you can make anything mean anything if you're a lying paranoid fanatic.

Hunting and foraging doesn’t have to sustain 6 billion people, it only has to sustain me and my friends and family if the shit goes down.

You're the one who said I was part of society whether I like it or not. Not much room for interpretation there. The "greater good" at the expense of the individual.

Yeah, and there's no personal stake in you shitting on the faintest hint of self-reliance. :dayton:

Meanwhile, in the real world, there is no timetable, nor is it an all-or-nothing proposition. Making some effort in that direction is better than none at all.

You people refusing to stay on topic are only signaling your inability to address anything.

Now, back on topic, how do YOU people propose to replace those 14 year olds' earnings? Not with MY fucking money.

One more try with you. The claim in the article is in part that they were being exploited with long hours, yes?
The implication being that they should work fewer hours, which means less money. Now, how do you propose to replace that?

Better that 13-year-olds should clean slaughterhouses and get chemical burns than that one single penny of your taxes should go to helping them not grow up in poverty.

Jesus, do you have even the slightest shred of human feeling for other people?

Why do you propose trying to replace that? There is a reason kids have limited working hours, and as explained in the article, part of the issue was that they were missing school to work instead.

Come off it with the histrionics. It's McDonald's, not a fucking coal mine. I did that as a teenager, and it's far from hard labor. The most difficult part is assbag customers.

Maybe school should prioritize marketable skills instead of Marxism and gender ideology if they want the more productive students to value it more.

Bitter? I'm GLAD to have learned a small amount of work ethic. It's one of the few things I did right. If you think it's better that they grow up entitled little shits who expect everything to be handed to them, I don't know what to tell you.

Labor laws are there to protect children from being …used for dangerous activities. McDonald’s isn’t inherently dangerous and I don’t believe labor laws apply to newspaper routes or lawn mowing.

Neither grade k-12, nor higher education in the US is teaching anything worth teaching. They’re teaching children memorization and following directions. When they should be teaching children to think.
