You cannot ship a fraction of the tonnage overland in to or out of China that travels by sea. And the most important areas of China in all respects are along the coast.

This has got to be one of the more ridiculous scenarios I've ever read. China cannot "directly attack" the United States, and the US cannot invade China. This helps to prevent a true World War III scenario, though in some ways, it makes small skirmish wars over peripheral interests more likely.
