yes, I have Windows 10 on my new computer (it came with W 10 and I'm no computer geek so bear with me) and I am using the recovery disk. Hats off to me for making a recovery disk in the first place! That said I am stuck in a loop! The process keeps taking me back to "choose a keyboard setting". As an experiment I tried unplugging the keyboard from it's USB port and the result is exactly the same. Thus, my computer acts as if it's not recognizing the keyboard. Yes, the keyboard itself works and I tried different USB ports to no avail. BOTTOM LINE: 1. using my recovery disk because I had a virus that I couldn't get rid of (despite the best efforts of my RogueKiller anti-virus program) 2. the recovery process runs the cycle but when the computer automatically restarts a window comes up that says "choose a keyboard layout." I click/choose US and the cuomputer tries to restart then comes back to this window - over and over 3. the keyboard & USB port are not the problem
You need to boot from the recovery disk, if you're restarting from the corrupted version of Windows, this may be the problem. You might have to change the machine's boot order to cause this.
Fixed it! I finally got my recovery disk to work thanks to much "googling" with my other computer. What an ordeal! Windows XP was much, much easier. Of course now my wife will have to go to all her favorite sites and put them in her bookmarks etc.etc. but at least I didn't have to pay to get the computer fixed. Hey, it will keep her busy and occupied when she gets released from the facility. My first site I'm going to is Rouge Killer because (other than this one instance) it does a great job at virus removal. Wow, what a relief!
