I upgraded (or downgraded ) to Vista the other day. So far, the bundled Windows Media Player 11 crashes every time it starts up. Also, any web page that attempts to load a WMP plug-in video crashes the browser. I've poked around on google and found other people complaining of the same problem. Anyone have any suggestions?
I'd probably start by checking if you have the latest drivers for your hardware and WMP is all patched up.
You know, I've had the same problem with iTunes. After the last big crash on this thing nearly a year ago, it just stopped working...actually, it's Quicktime that stopped working, and iTunes can't function without it anymore. I don't know if there's anyway of fixing that without paying a shitload of money or wiping the memory clean.
Downloaded all the most recent drivers yesterday, WMP is as patched as it can be at the moment. I even downloaded the program again to try and reinstall it, but Vista wouldn't let me, saying the version I had was more current than the version I was attempting to install.
Of course, XP Pro is what I had been running for the last few years, just like everyone else. Yes, I could wipe out Vista and return to XP, but then I would have wasted my money on Vista. I'm stubborn, I want Vista to work. I'll at least wait until service pack 1 before I give up on Vista.
I refused to upgrade to 11 because it forces you to install the Registry Worm "feature" of XP. My annoyance is that the v10 interface is very annoying, even quirky right now. I can't fast-forward through things. I have to watch something from the beginning.
