Hmmm, if he was given a conditional discharge 25 years ago, then the conviction would now be 'spent', which means that it no longer has to be disclosed when applying for a job, or anything like that. But that's just within the UK, I'm fairly sure the visa waiver form asks about spent convictions... Yeah, this is all about the publicity - a few of his other claims have been debunked in reports I've read about this over here...

Well, U.S. customs is staffed and run, and its policies are set at the highest levels, by people unable to get more respectable jobs like pimp and drug dealer.
