So... has anyone been to Graceland? Is it worth the timee. I am planning on hitting up Beale Street. Other than that, Memphis will be some place new to visit.
It's interesting in a "look at how this eccentric rich dude lived" sort of way whether you like the music or not (or was in the 80's when i was there
If you don't hit the best-known local places to eat, you might as well not go. And if you don't eat BBQ a bunch of times while you're there, then kill yourself. That's like going to Paris and not seeing the Eiffel Tower or the Louvre.
I only ever heard of two of those places. Rendezvous has good BBQ, and is worth a visit for the experience alone, but mostly only tourists go there. Neely's or Central are some of the best.
Made it to the AirBNB. It's in Arkansas, so yeah. The place is really nice. But from the part of Arkansas that I drove through, I don't get how people don't kill themselves living here. After unloading the car and getting situated, went out to dinner that is advertises itself as a steakhouse and grill, they don't serve beer. I'm guessing since I'm closer to Memphis than... well wherever Dayton lives the redneckery may not be too bad
You must have driven through West Memphis, Arkansas. That place is a shithole. Did you see the Pyramid before you went over the river? The Goddamn life sized Bass Pro/Ducks Unlimited pyramid?
I did drive through there, didn't see the pyramid though. Crossed over the Mississippi river on I55, saw on the map that it's by I40 by the Mississippi river.
Well fuck me, call me insane. We stopped in at a micro brewery we found where we're staying. I was chatting with one of the owners, and now we might fly out to St. Louis for a day trip. We can get a fight in the morning, be there fairly early. And then catch an evening fight back. It will give us about 11 hours or so to spend there. The round trip flights come out to about $75 each. I'm really too excited about this.
Sounds weird, but it was the best flight I've ever been on. And it was an incredibly fun flight too. Just he flight itself was worth the price.
So yeah, this is an awesome trip! The main trip itself was planned, the side trip to St. Louis was more or less on the whim. That had been a super awesome fun trip so far. The flight was awesome, seeing the Gateway Arch was a bucket list item, just the cost of the flight was totally worth it. Even if all I did was fly to St. Louis, and fly back. Seeing the arch was was incredible, I know it's not the largest project ever, or one of the most complex, but it was really something to see in person. I don't think I've stopped smiling since the plane took off. I honestly can't recommend just hopping on a flight like this and making a day of it.
