I've never seen this thing in person and now I wonder if I will ever get the chance. The world’s biggest aircraft, the Antonov-225 cargo plane, was destroyed by Russian forces while it was under repair at an airfield in Gostomel near Kyiv, according to Ukraine’s state-run Ukroboronprom. Restoration of the aircraft, known as Mriya, will take more than five years at a cost of over $3 billion
My father was an air traffic controller at YYZ which allowed him a fair amount of access to everywhere else as well, including the one hanger that was large enough to accommodate this beast when she was there. We did a walk around... just, wow. nearly 30 years later and I still remember how awesome looking this thing in the face was.
The company has said that they intend to rebuild the aircraft after the war is over, but that seems like wishful thinking based on the things that I've read.
I saw a documentary on it a few years back and remember being very impressed with the professionalism of the crew.
Billionaire Richard Branson visited a Kyiv airfield to discuss rebuilding the world's largest cargo plane, which was destroyed by a Russian attack
Branson is using his money to rebuild one of Ukraine's iconic symbols. Musk is using his money to destroy one of the Internet's biggest open sewers. Who's doing more good for humanity?
The Enormous Antonov An-225 Mriya Flies Again in Microsoft Flight Simulator All proceeds go to help rebuild the plane.
For less than $1K USD you can have a very fucking large model of the plane. How large? And yeah, you can convert that into an RC plane.
