Would a Conservative Black Candidate have gotten 96% of the Black Vote?

If someone like JC Watts, Walter Williams, or Thomas Sowell managed to get the Republican nod, would the same number of blacks have voted for him, simply because he was black, or would the idea of not getting more free shit have made them vote against the Oreo?

So if a black conservative candidate got the majority of the black vote, it would be just because he was black...and if he didn't get it, it would be because blacks are lazy welfare bums.

Yeah, because right now the minimum wage is so shitty that it pays more to go into drugs and crime, so there is no incentive to get a legit job other than "Well, you should do the right thing and get a McJob and just be happy flipping burgers."

There have to be jobs and opportunities for education, or telling people to "just...you know...get a job" is useless.

It isn't "just be happy at your McJob", it's "use the McJob as a stepping stone."

Get a job, get an education, get out of the ghetto. Any one can be a success, regardless of the color of their skin, their upbringing, where they went to school, so long as they want it and are willing to work for it.

There isn't a single person in this country that isn't handed a free education from K-12. There isn't a person in this country that can't get a scholarship or a student loan if they can't afford college. That education gets you the job.

It's just easier to say "You can't do it on your own and it's someone else's fault." instead of saying "Work for it if you want it."

If an employee at McDonald's is worth a shit and shows some drive, he will be asked to move up. Crew Leader, assistant manager, and so on. Jocking a register at the grocery store can lead to higher positions, and if not, there is always another bullshit job that will look for good people.

Nobody is suggesting doing that. What is needed are more and better educational opportunites, and most importantly job creation.

Something that the right and left have both failed miserably at creating.

Poverty generates crime. Opportunity generates prosperity and peace.

The right needs to make a better case to the nation how they believe their ideas will generate this opportunity.

And the left needs to acknowledge they've had since Wilson to get it right with public programs and social hand ups, and still haven't.

I will admit that a lot of public programs suck ass...they punish you for working, rather than encourage it (all in the name of "reform")...so there is no incentive to get off them.

Really, you get even a small job then you suddenly completely lose some benefits like day care and health care, and that makes it harder to work unless you magically find a good job that supplies all those things (and McD's don't.)

And people who are on disibility, many could work with proper treatment and medication...but get a job, lose SSI and health benefits...(especially for people with mental illnesses, who need medication to be able to just function.)

That REALLY needs to change. The incentive should be in favor of the people trying to work and get educated. Then only the most ill who can't work will have to rely on it - and maybe the $$$ saved by moving people who an work off the program can go into giving the people who really need it something more than a subsistance level life.

I haven't seen final breakdown numbers from the election, but I do remember from a thread a month or so ago that in 2004 Kerry got 90% of the black vote or something similar.

The very first Sgt. I ever had is a black man. When I met him, he'd been on the job for about eight years. Around the ten year mark, he ended up being promoted to Lt. and he was given his very own shift to run.

Five years after that, after his house had been shot up and vandalized half a dozen times and he was afraid to leave his house without his vest on, he said, "Fuck it." and turned in his resignation.
