I am upgrading from XP sp1 to sp2.
It recommends that I back up my system before doing so.

My question in, what needs backing up?

You're just now hitting SP2? Wow.

Anyway, normally I don't pay much attention to those, but due to the serious security holes you have by now and any possible bits of nasty that uses them, go for it.

Back up any pictures, documents, etc., etc. Basically anything you created. Good luck!

So I get the SP2 CD and attempt to install it.
It extracts, finds a place to back up system files, and the checks the system inventory.
it goes for 10 minutes, around, then stops at a "product registrey key" and tells me there is a external error and that the install in unsucessful.

    Windows.
I'lll fucking show it a window. The living room window!!
