They have a survey on all their articles now instead of a comments button. Thoughts? Y'all ever comment on Yahoo stories? I do sometimes . . .

My experience with the Yahoo! comments section was that most commentators were hateful, ill-informed buffoons.

    Good riddance.

I can count on one hand the number of times I've commented on an online news article.

Yeah I saw that. I took the survey and said get rid of the comments. They’re just echo chambers usually and by the people opposite the POV of the article.

My suspicion is that because so many Yahoo articles are written very poorly, they were being called out on their sloppiness too much and they didn't like it.

There is merit to that. They come from many different media sources. Many are ads that are poorly disguised as celebrity articles.
they have recently been publishing a lot more from The NY Times and LA Times which is nice. Those are legit articles. But you have to balance that against fifty Kim K and Kanye articles.

There's that, but they may be tired of trying to police the comments for trolls.

Our web people spend an inordinate amount of time cleaning up the comments on both the main web site as well as the Facebook account.

Yeah, but the traffic at either place is a small fraction of what's on an open website and Facebook.

MSN did the same thing. They didn't care for regular folks comments on their slanted stories.

Alex Jones, who originally confirmed the story, has retracted. "I thought you meant the Yahoos and the Houyhnhnms from Gulliver's Travels. They definitely exist, despite what everyone wants you to believe. But the website? Come on. Be real." It is the first retraction in the controversial pundit's career, say experts.

I had no idea Yahoo even publishes news articles.

Let me confirm that with Ask Jeeves.

I remember some TK poster named Faith_in_George being a big Yahoo troller or something. People thought his schtick was lame even back in 2005.

Next you're going to tell me that Alta Vista and Excite are being resurrected from the dead.

(As an aside, I still use My.Yahoo.Com as my startup page and basic news / headline delivery service).

So do I, which is how I noticed the comments being gone. Still use Yahoo mail as my main email, too. I've had it since 1998 or so, no reason to give it up.
