In light of AbramsTrek, hasn't all of TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, VOY (and possibly, given all the time travel between eras, ENT) not happened? [doc_brown]"Erased...from existence!"[/doc_brown]
It all still exists in its own timeline, as does the Edith Keeler Pussifies America version of history.
You say that like it's a bad thing. Seriously. TOS may not unfold the way it originally did, but at least the characters are still around. However there's a good chance that TNG, DS9 and VOY will never happen and, given the massive changes in the timeline, many if not most of the characters from those series will never exist. Anyone gonna miss that British... er, French... faggot Picard? How about Lwaxana Troi? Jake Sisko? Nog? Quark? Janeway? Neelix? Good fucking riddance to the lot of them.
You forgot the part in the AbramsNuJJTrek movie when Spock farted while travelling through the spatial anomaly, thereby causing a space-time rift paradox that wiped out the gamma quadrant and the wormhole aliens.
Actually... the destruction of Vulcan somehow changed the face of the first Cardassian War, the peaceful Federation colony of Setlik 3 was not mistaken for a military base and therefor the Setlik 3 massacre never took place. As a result, the Cardassian's felt no need to hand Bajor over to the Federation out of guilt. This resulted in Ben Sisko never arriving to DS9. The Pah-Wraiths were then able to emerge and kill all the Prophets. However, since the prophets exist outside our space-time they were not affected by the timeline changes. This caused the prophets to be both alive and dead at the same time no matter the observation, in strict defiance of the uncertainty principle. The resulting time/space paradox caused the universe to collapse. So Abrams Trek did destroy the universe.
You really can't go that far. Neelix is in the Delta Quadrant. The destruction of Vulcan would have no effect on him. Same for Nog and Quark. (and other aliens.. non-Vulcans) Now for Janeway and Picard it all depends. Was their direct descendants on any of those Federation ships that were wiped out? Probably not. And you can still have TNG, DS9, and VOY. Things might look differently but all could exist in their own way. In fact one could make the case that Starfleet and the Federation might be more aggressive without the "check" that Vulcan provided. Heck you could even still have TOS. Kirk was relatively new to the Enterprise when the series started. Again certain things will be different. Instead of fighting over T'Pring on Vulcan it will be done on the new colony world.
One thing that always baffled me about Star Destroyers is that they are so huge yet carry so small a number of Tie Fighters. Never made any sense. The Super Star Destroyer is supposedly 12 miles long yet only carries 144 Tie Fighters. You'd think something that big could carry a thousand fighters. Not to mention have an emergency bridge.
It's gotta take up a lot of space to carry multiple AT-ATs and AT-STs, plus the shuttles to get them down to a planet. Maybe that's why they don't carry more fighters.
It's not your imagination, nuBSG was an incredibly dark show. It did have some moments of humor, smiles, and joy, but they were very few and far between. A friend recently tried to marathon the series and ended up only being able to watch a couple episodes a day, not for lack of time, but because the show was too emotionally heavy to watch for hours at a time. As he said at the time, "I think if I were to watch this show all day I'd want to kill myself."
Ye gods think of the crew needed to man that thing. BTW, it's only the Super class that are that big IIRC. Vader's ship.
The idea was great, the execution horrid. No episodes of Voyager stand out as classics. It felt like 7 years of one big "filler Trek". The characters were bland (most of them) or cringeworthy (Neelix and the Doctor) with the only credible characters left being the Captain herself (squeaky voice and all) and Tuvok. The show also made one of the most insulting and criminal moves in the history of Star Trek with the introduction of 7 of 9. Not only was this a huge "fuck you" to Mulgrew in that clearly the producers thought that the audiences were more interested in a blonde bimbo in tight clothes than a respected female authority figure, but also it was made on the assumption that the main audience of the show was nerdy 15 year old little boys who needed to see tight catsuits in order to continue watching. Gone were the years of Star Trek where the audience was treated as intelligent. I bet Gene was turning over in his grave.
I'm more disturbed by the size of that dude's head. ...and the fact that he looks retarded and completely clueless about where he is. My theory is that he is a retarded alien who escaped from the Enterprise's special care facility and put on a woman's uniform to blend in.
7 of 9 was another "great idea/poor execution" things. Originally they were going to kill off Harry and bring in a male Borg as a more effective foil for Janeway, but then Garret Wang was included in People's "Sexiest 100" issue that year, so they decided to keep him and get rid of Kes instead.
