Serious thread, bro. A pig just caught me going down the hill at 48 on a 30 zone. I'm one point away from losing my license. What do I do? Should I challenge the ticket? I've heard that cops usually won't show up if you do, and the tickets will get thrown out. Do I need to hire a lawyer? Will you do it? Or should I just plead guilty and do traffic school? Help me out here, bro.
Damn. I got caught doing 44 in a 30 and a known bear trap to boot and got off with a warning. "Do you know what the limit here is?" he asked. "I know it was about to change to 45," said I. "Ah, but it hadn't yet." It also helped that I was stressed out from having to drive my sister around as she did last minute in-town errands before I had to drive her to the airport and we were running behind schedule. The cop told me to relax and take it easy on the road. Truth be told, I was lucky an actual cop was trying to get his quota, because normally it's a van parked there doing photo radar (those should be outlawed, IMO No, I haven't been busted by one... yet)
Um, I'm not knowledgeable with California traffic court. If you can sufficiently cast reasonable doubt on meriting the ticket, challenging it may be the best choice. But if you've only one point left on your license, that could fuck you over (and Cali's not the best place to lose a license, IMO). If you do so, ask the judge if he'd accept you doing Traffic School if he finds you guilty. If not, Traffic School's the best means to salvage your insurance rates.
Too late to do anything about it now. When he walked up to the car/scooter and stuck his big ol' pig face in your window/grill, asking for ID, you should've waved nonchalantly at him and said "You don't need to see my identification. These aren't the 'droids you're looking for."
That could be easier said than done in Cali-- I can't comment for traffic in Dual's neck of the woods, but in SoCal, everyone speeds (when not in gridlock). Go the speed limit, you're liable to get a ticket for impeding traffic. You're doing well above the limit to get caught for speeding down there. On a related note, I'm still impressed and wondering how the hell I managed to drive from Phoenix to Portland, via LA, Fresno and the Bay Area without any fucking tags or license plates. At all. And I passed/saw a few CHPs on the way.
Well, that sounds like some fucked up shit. Get a ticket for speeding or get a ticket for not speeding. Wait... Cali. Never mind. "Fucked up shit" is practically the unofficial name of the state.
